First off, I drive a V-6, but the wife has an SS. I have a 268 duration Comp Cam in my six, and I must say it's worth the money. They're fairly simple to install. I had to remove mine recently to avoid problems at the dealer with voiding the warranty, and I had it out in around 2 hours. Install is around the same time frame. If you're wanting a lopy idle a 268 is the way to go. This one also works well with stock gearing like 3.40 or 4.10's. I believe the 270 duration with a .470 lift is the biggest cam you can have with a stock converter. Anything higher like a 280 you need to get a new torque converter. Hope I was of some help, even though I drive a sixer..
