Cam question

I've been looking around, and I found a cam called the "ASA GMPP Cam". It has the same lift as the GMPP Hot Cam, but duration os 226/236 @ .050 lift, and the lobe separation is a little closer at 110 degrees. How would this cam work in a stock LS1, with LT headers and dual 3 inch exhaust? Intake tract is stock except for the SLP air lid. I could possibly be changing the intake to the Comp Cams FAST LSX manifold, but not sure yet. Just wondering if this cam would work well with pretty much a stock engine with headers, dual exhaust, and a good tune. Thanks guys!

Re: Cam question

it should perform very well.

you already have the better flowing intake...the ls6...that came stock on the 01/02 fbody. and your other mods are exactly what you need to allow the engine to breath.

it will idle pretty rough with that tight of a lobe separation, but it will also help keep the power lower in the rpm band which is much more useable.

you didn't specify what the lift was exactly, but seems i remember the HC being in the .525" which is pretty small, especially considering the flow potential of the stock ls1 heads.

i would guess that you would get about 380rwhp on a good tune with the cam, possibly more but that small lift is gonna hurt you.

Re: Cam question

that's a big difference in duration for an LS1 car... my T-Rex is a 243/249 cam and is on a 110.4 lobe separation... its really choppy but its also incredibly powerful from down low all the way to 6800rpm... stock 241 casting heads with long tubes and true duals got me to 403.8rwhp through a 12bolt w/3.73s... I'm with Teke in saying that you're probably going to get about 380rwhp with that cam and a good tune

if you're going with something with a 236 exhaust duration, though, why not go with something like the TR 230/236 cam?

Re: Cam question

or at least like a 228r from tsp

maybe you should look around... they have new lobes called LSK that allow for some serious lift and high durations and not Piston to valve clearence.

you are leaving a lot on the table with such a ****ty cam... still gonna take just as much money and time to install it... and just a bit longer to tune it

Re: Cam question

hell if you're gonna step up into the 23x cams...go for the FM13 or FM14 from Futral

or the TSP torquer cam, which gave me an awesomely flat torque curve from 3500 all the way to 6200rpm.
