Cam Question
I just had a Comp 224 -581 -112 put in with all the goodies and had it tuned. Is it normal for the car to not run great will it is warm? The car sometimes starts and dies if it is 100% cold. Once it reaches 210 it runs fine. Is this normal or should I take it back to have it retuned?
Re: Cam Question
theoretically all cars need to warm up to get to a smooth idle. you just notice it more in cammed cars.
my 233 cam doesn't idle very well when cold, and i am pretty sure the tune is off in the lower rpms. but i have only had it stall on me 2 or 3 times in a year while it's warming up.
and it's a much bigger cam than your 224.
at least talk to the guy who tuned it...see what they say.

Re: Cam Question
This is why I'm an advocate of learning how to do it yourself. It sounds like the tuner made some very minor changes to improve driveability, but stopped at the point where it would stay running most of the time before moving on to tuning WOT. Good news is, your WOT is probably spot on. But, it's the rest of the PCM that's the tedious part of tuning that many tuners don't like to spend time on. This includes things like adjusting your IAC steps to appropriate levels (60~70 steps when warm), adjusting your Desired Airflow Table to feed the motor enough air when idling, uping the Base Spark P/N table to smooth out idle, etc. That's why I get irritated when I hear stories about tuners changing injector tables to fool the PCM into dumping more/less fuel in throughout the rpm range. Why do this when you didn't change injectors? If it's not too late, I'd check into something like EFILive and a wideband O2 so you could do it yourself. There's definitely a learning curve, but if you have patience and time, the payoff is well worth it.
