Looking at a car with a custom cam. Havent driven it yet but the car runs 12.1 in the quarter. It has bolt ons Long tube kook headers with kooks 3" offroad y-pipe up to flowmaster exhaust. New center force clutch. K&N ect
the cam is LG motorsports custom grind cam G5x3 2xx 2xx .600 .610 @ 114 LSA. Is this a streetable cam. What kind of rwhp is this car runnin? Thanks

Re: Cam question

guessing your looking at 375-385 rwhp. i would say that the cam is still streetable. many on here have a custom cam near those specs or tsp torquer cam. any work done to the heads? i think the highest lift supported by stock heads is .609 i could be wrong.

Re: Cam question

yeah...my torquer 233/233 .589" 112lobe cam is pretty streetable.

real heavy city traffic it may get a bit annoying. but i still get 24/18 highway-city milage.

Re: Cam question

I don't think street-ability is a problem with cams so much on 6-speed cars. However, one thing people often overlook is valve spring life. With a bigger cam like that, chances are the springs are only good for 20-30K miles. At least, that's what I occasionally hear.

Not if you get the upgraded dual springs like I did from Comp, they last a little longer than that, i hear. Mine is a little hotter than Teke's, and it is very streetable, but is an m6.

Re: Cam question

A cam is a cam, however, the tune is what will make the ultimate determination on "streetable" all things even.

As long as it is your car . . . sure. I don't think his question was asking about maximum lift, as he has what he has . . . little late for that question, or answer for that matter. His question was regarding streetability which is more dependent on tune - unless there is no clearance at which point streetability is a moot point.

Re: Cam question

Go to LS1tech and do a search on this cam. I'm sure you'll find dynos that have been posted.

The G5X3 is a nice cam. Makes great power with a good power band much like the Futral grinds. It will be hard on the springs and you better be willing to spin that engine high.

The duration is not advertised. This isn't uncommon.

Re: Cam question

being ground on a 114lsa should help its streetability...fwiw i had tsp's 231/237 cam ground on a 112lsa with 2.73 gears in an auto & it was my daily driver. With just minor tuning it became very streetable.
