cam instaliation

hey guys my camaro is an 2002 z28 and im thinking of getting a cam for 1800rpm to 5800rpm what would be the the best cam for me im thinking of a comp xtreme energy 1800-5800 rpm 222/224 duration 566/568 lift. would this cam be ok for a daily driven car and race? also how hard is it to install a cam in a 2002 camaro ls1?

Re: cam instaliation

short duration w/very narrow LSA. Try that cam on a 110.
Or something like the CheaTR if you have emissions testing or want a sleeper.
Could also look into some of the old grind "baby" cams. Lunati and Crane lobes are like the old grinds.

Even then if you want 1800 up, stick w/stock. I have not seen any aftermarket cam do much lower than 2500. Which is fine because when you're racing your car will see very little time in that range.

As greed4speed suggested, having something like the popular 224 ground on a narrower LSA will give you more low-end and make "the pull" start earlier.

I'm a big fan of tight LSA and short lobes. I wouldn't mind a 224/224 on a 109 myself. I'd give it a try. Also, tightening up the LSA will introduce more overlap- so you'll get a chopier idle.

You also couldn't go wrong with just an off the shelf 224/224 either (will be on a 112 or 114 lobe seperation angle. Tried and true.
