CAM help?
CAM help?
I am getting ready to help a friend install a cam in his 2002 SS. Need help with which cam to use. Just want a mild cam that will give a noticable lope at idle. Don't want to have to change heads, etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Re: CAM help?
Any cam you should replace the valve springs. Alot of our customers run the comp cams beehive springs. Look for a cam in the 224ish duration on a 112 LSA is what we'd recomend. Futral, TSP, Thunder all have some in that duration. We also have our stage 2 LS1 cam that is in the mid 220ish duration.... If you have any questions let us know....
Re: CAM help?
If you're looking for just enough cam to hear it lope, then I agree that a cam in the 224 duration range @ .050" would work well. You don't have to change the cylinder heads when changing cams, no matter how large or small the cam is, but a good set of ported heads will definitely make more power.
When changing cams, you'll want to at least change valve springs and pushrods. Other items to consider are ported LS6 oil pump, timing chain or timing set, and a camshaft bolt & gasket package.
Feel free to give us a call with any questions or concerns. Any one of our sales guys will be more than happy to help you and your friend pick the best camshaft for his needs.
