California Emissions
I am the unfortunate purchaser of a California Smog equipped SS in Arizona. Can you tell me what I have extra on my LS-1 than the Federal or NE equipped Camaro's? Can I legally remove the CA smog since I reside in Arizona?
There's nothing special on a CA sold car ... my understanding is all cars sold in the US now, meet the CA emmisions requirements.
What the CA requirement was in essence a sticker for cars sold in CA ... if you didn't have the sticker, CA slapped a $300 tax on you when you brought a car in from out of state - even though it passed smog.
This practice was declared illegal, since for all intents and purposes it was an interstate tarriff. Everyone who ever paid it got their money back, plus interest - I got a check a couple of years ago, for a car I brought in 10 years back.
Now some states are more lenient in thier smog laws vis-a-vis AM equipment. Some states will accept such things as long tubes with cats as long as you pass the sniffer. Where as CA doesn't allow much variation from the OEM design.
Good Luck
