C5R Heads and a GOOD CAM!!
I have a 02 Z28 6 spd. I dont want any power adders just cam and heads. I have been thinking about C5R heads because i can get them for about 1k. But I'm not sold on them yet and wanted the advice from everyone here first. I'm not very cam literate so please forgive, I want something i can drive everyday if i want. The goal is 400-450 rwhp/tq. Please help... =/ Thanks

Re: C5R Heads and a GOOD CAM!!
There is a big difference in the streetability, manners, and wear and tear on the valvetrain of a cam that'll get you 400 whp VS. 450 whp.
400 whp can easily be had w/ported heads and the LPE GT2-3, that'll be like stock in every aspect except power, compared to the larger cams that it'll take to get 450.

You need to do a ton of research before you mod your car.
Firstly, you won't get a set of C5R heads for $1000 unless they have serious problems or you're the luckiest SOB alive.
Secondly, you can't use them on a stock-displacement, stock-bottom end LS1 (and you can't use the stock-style intake manifolds, either). Forget about using any aftermarket cam with the 2.18 intake valves as well.
Lastly, the heads are under 50cc (I don't know the exact CC size), which will net you nearly 14:1 compression on the stock stuff. Once you spin the stock motor to 8000 rpm to get them to breathe, the connecting rod already shot through your brain.
Final Thoughts:
Do more research before you blow up your car.

Re: C5R Heads and a GOOD CAM!!
A MUCH better idea would be the AFR 205 Mongoose heads or the AFR 225cc small chamber heads and a Futral Motorsports F-13, F-14, or F-15 cam.
That combo is worth well over 450 rwhp. I made 471 rwhp with the Dart 225cc heads, the F-15, and the FAST 90/90.

Thanks for all the information, I was thinking about the AFR heads and planned on purchasing them, then this offer came across so I posted the offer I was given. I didn't know much about the heads and I knew there would be someone smarter than me on here. I'm a service adivsor thats how i know the chevy parts manager out here who had the heads. Thanks again.

Did you make 471 rwhp with a stock short block????

Of course. And it would have been more than that if it was in an F-body with less drivetrain loss. BTW, the motor had right under 80,000 miles.
