I have the oppurtunity to buy a 98 z28. It was totaled, but still retains a clear title. Minimal damage. Right side door has tire marks on it that look like it can get rubbed out. Bottom side skirt is dented and body looks to be dented there. panel just before rear tire is dented too. Door still closes all the way and window still goes all the way down. 96,000 miles and automatic. Rear z06 rim is hit hard and dented badly. Underneath looks ok, except the owner dumped the exhaust just after the y pipe. May need a trans pan gasket. Little bit of rust underneath, nothing too major. Was a jersey shore car. Motor runs very sound, little belt squeal when you bring the revs up. No back seats and the front seats are dirty.

How much should I offer on this car? I put a rim on the back and drove it. Needs alignment and something is clunking. Rear may be shifted slightly, but I don't think so. 315 tires are rubbing in the back. How much could I sell it if I fixed everything?

 

I'd bet the clunking in the rear is probably a warped axle. I had an '88 Camaro that was hit in the same area. The wheel looked fine and everything, but the axle ended up being warped.

I wouldn't plan on buying the car just to flip/resell it. It sounds like you'll have way more in it than it's worth. And to be honest, it sounds like the car really deserved a salvage title.

 

It is an auction so bids start at $200. I will have to inspect the car more on monday, but if I can get this car cheap enough I am sure I can make money on it. I figure get 4 new OE rims and tires or a nicer set, sell the 3 good zo6 rims and tires. Then get a factory exhaust setup off craigslist or something and maybe an interior. I figure maybe 500 for everything. I will not have to buy any body panels since I can pop them out. I have someone that will paint the doors for cheap. How much is it worth or at what amount should I stop bidding. I figure $1500

I would walk away at $1000 but that's just me, you could be getting yourself into a money pit if you find more problems, which i'm sure you are.

 

I need a play project or streetbike. It is up for auction on WEdnesday, so i need some input. Anybody else think it will be a money pit or is it worth something?

 

Nearly 100k and an auto? Figure around $5k or so.
