Buying LS1 Help

Hello I traded my 97 Z-28 in for a 01 Monte Carlo SS, well needless to say I want my camaro back. Im looking to buy a 99 or newer Z-28 or SS. Are any years better than others. The used ones Im looking at vary from 10k miles to 70kmiles. But the price goes up pretty quick with low miles. Any advice greatly appreciated hopefully I will be a Z-28 owner again by the end of the week.

01s and 02s got the LS6 intake manifold. That's where there hp difference comes form. Other then that theres no big changes.

98's had bigger fuel injectors.

I also heard they responded to the addition of the LS6 Manifold (I have seen some go on the board for $300) a little better. I HEARD they had a slightly larger cam. I do not know for sure though and hope I don't sound too stupid if this is not the case.

A 98 is cheaper. I just got mine for $8000 a few months ago.

The 98s injectors were a small difference in size. The 98s and 99s (possibly 00s) had bigger cams. The 01s and 02s LS6 intake manifold outweigh the bigger cam.

Rear ends were upgradable, Z28s had 2.73s with the 3.23 option and SSs came standard with 3.23s. All LS1 manuals have 3.42s.

they're all good cars. there are a few differences highlighted above. no year is superior to another year. just get one with the fewest miles that you can afford...

good luck, you'll love the LS1

If you are wondering about some of the mechanical flaws the LS1 has, they are piston slap, interior rattles, and oil consumption.

Yup. Sounds familiar. Maybe you and I have something wrong with our cars...
