Buying a car need help...
i have been looking for a new car for some tiem now and have found a very nice 1998 trans am ws6. i was just wondering what some of the more common problem/wear areas of thatcar might be.
also it is in need of new tires. i was wondering what tire would be the best one for the car. i would like a nice z-rated tire that gets aome decent treadwear.
any help would be great.

Welcome to the board.
These same questions have been asked pretty often lately. You might want to use the "search" function to see what you can come up with. Use phrases like "common problems" or "best tire".
Anyway, there are no actual mechanical problems associated with the LS1's. Depending on how the car has been driven and taken care of, of course. They are usually very reliable for a long period of time.
Weak window motors, warped rotors (OEM installed) and, of course, the infamous piston slap are the most common issues and none of them are serious.
And before you ask about the piston slap, again, do a search and you'll come up with LOTS of threads about it.
As far as tires go, everybody will have a lot to say about them and have their own opinions, so you have to be able to see the forest for the trees.
Kumho 712 is said to be pretty good tire in the $100 range. If you can/want to spend more, I'd suggest BFG G-force KDW or KDWS. I currently have the KDW's in my car and they seem to be working very well.
Check all the usual stuff you'd be checking on other cars (previous damage/paintjob, noises, smells etc. etc.), too, and if the car feels good and miles/price is good, then go for it.
If a high performance car is what youo are looking for, you won't regret it.
Bear in mind, though, that these cars require constant upkeep and preventive maintenance (just the basic stuff: oil, fuilds etc.) to keep them running well for a long time to come.
Good luck!
