Building my SS
Building my SS
Ok i have a manual 2000 Camaro SS and i would like to build a solid racer. I dont want to stick a couple g'z into it just to have it break down later. I wanna start from the bottom up. Money really isnt a problem because i have plenty of time to make the money to do this with. So far on the car i have a catbak exhaust system and a cold air intake but thats it. Not sure what the next step should be. I plan on supercharging in the future so please take that into consideration. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys

Re: Building my SS
You need to carefully and honestly develop your plan:
If you are serious about supercharging in the next 24 months or so;
Headers - 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 stepped or 1 7/8 are better for power adders.
Heads - Good flowing large volume runners
Cam - work with the vendors but splits like 224/228 or wider are generally recommended.
Clutch - you'll need a stage 3 or better
Rear - if you plan to add sticky tires you'll need a 12 bolt.
If this is an all out racer and not daily driven you may want to consider a 402 block built for the purpose to be used with the above
If you're not 100% commited to supercharging then all of the above will not be optimal;
Headers - 1 3/4 will work well and maintain velocity across the rpm range.
Heads - Various builds available with the appropriate runner sizes - AFR, TEA, Z06 CNC'd etc.
Cam - wide variety available
Clutch - Several available that have good holding power and drivability.
Rear - if you're not using stickies you can use the 10 bolt as long as you don't launch at 5000 rpm! Consider 3.73 or 4.10 gears. Otherwise just get a 12 bolt strange or Moser.
The Ls1 bottom end with a new oil pump will hold well, again if you want to go to the next step get a 402 forged bottom.
That's my .02
