my question is: on a 98 z28 ,does it have a rear caliper brakes system and a drum type set up for the parking brake.i replaced the rear pads thinking this would help but no luck.i noticed under the car there is a lever type thing going into the bottom of the brake area on both sides.the noise is killing me plus it is very embarassing.also when i pull up the e brake the noise stops. does anyone know what could be the problem.all or any help will be appriciated

I'll try and take a stab at what you are asking...


The parking brake grabs the disc like most rear disc brake setups. Noise could be coming from a number of sources, but warped rotors were a source of a bad squeak on my buddies LT1. We thought it was something else for the longest time.. replacing the bearings, pads, and checking all the clearances etc....

Need more info if that isnt what you were looking for...

 

go to auto zone and get some new rotors

 

The '98's & up use rear disc brakes, but the parking brake is a drum type set up that grabs the surface inside the rear rotor.

Perhaps one of the e-brake shoes has come loose & is causing the noise ?

Best bet:

Buy a Chilton's or Hayne's manual, get out the floor jack & jackstands, get a buddy who is good w/ cars & likes to drink beer & give her the ol' look see.
