brake change
Ok, getting ready to change out the brakes and I could use a few suggestions. I've heard a lot of ppl talk about hawk and ebc pads. Any comments on either of these or any others? Also, my original plan was just to use OEM rotors. Good idea, bad idea, other alternatives? They will just be used on the street (no track time for now) and I'm looking for the best price/performance/long life combination.
Any comments, suggestions are welcome and would be appreciated!

I use the Hawk HPS pads. They do the job great. I did try the EBC pads at one point, but they ate my rotors. It wasn't looking good but I think it had more to do with the fact that I had some cheap cross-drilled rotors on the car at the time.
I had been starting to lean toward the HPS before I started this thread, but wanted to hear some opinions first...so thanks! That's not the first time i've heard of ebc pads eating up rotors or wearing down in a couple thousand miles...but some ppl really seem to like them. Also, anyone have good deals. $76 and $67 for front and rear HPS's seems to be around the going price.
Any opinions on the rotors? So far I found cheapo's for $26 and some plain brembo's for $61. I guess i'm a little leary of the cheap ones.

I bought the Pads from Tirerack when I bought them last. From what I hear and through my experience, autozone rotors are pretty damn good and for only about $38 a piece. The brembo rotors should be decent too.
Thanks Cripple, best price i've seen so far. Bought
I know bleeding the brakes isn't necessary, but wondered if I should go ahead while i'm down there? Or is it pointless unless my pedal is soft?

Bleeding the brakes is probably pointless unless air somehow got into your brake system. As long as the master cylinder is topped up, and the pedal feels good, you should never need to bleed the brakes
.
As far as rotors, I don't think the OEM ones are the best because they warp too easy. I'm not sure which brands are best though, so I wouldn't mind hearing some more about that
(and BTW, I don't have an "Autozone" nearby).

Since you said that you're looking for the best price/performance combination: the AutoZone rotors are excellent for less than 40$ a piece - their pads are also good.... I guess everything is better than what was originally installed.....
They have a few different kinds of rotors that they sell at auto zone now that I look at the website.
AIMCO - $35.99
AIMCO Extreme - $93.99
Valucraft - $25.99
I assume the regular Aimco is the brand everyone has been reffering to

I run the $35 Aimco AutoZone rotors and Raybestos Ceramic pads.
Quick stops, no dust, no noise. I can't complain. Oh, and the Raybestos Ceramic Pads have lifetime replacement warranty ... never pay for pads again.
