Big Cams

Alright, I have been looking into cam's lately but I have never gotten a definate answer on one cam, and was wondering about comparisons to 2 others, alright so heres what my setup is going to be, full valvetrain upgrade, kooks longtubes 1 3/4, tsp true duals, slp lid, k&n filter, SSRA, 12 bolt with 4.10's(6 spd), traction suspension upgrades.

anyways, the cam question is this, what would be the power comparison of these 4 cams.

1: Thunder Racing T-Rex Cam, 242/248 .608/.612 110lsa
2: Thunder Racing split reverse cams (236/230 .602/.575 112 LSA) and (230/224 .575/.563 111lsa)
3: Texas Speed Performance MS3 237/242 .603/.609 113lsa
4: Texas Speed Performance 240/240 .608/.608 112lsa

Alright, My questions are as follows
A: Which would be the best cam for street driveability and power combination
B: Which would be the best cam for strip
C: would cam #4(240/240 .608/.608 112) allow for the stock pistons to clear the valves with stock heads(i have heard that all of the others will)
D: Give your opinions on which cam you think overall is the best.

Re: Big Cams

if you're going with teh 12 bolt and 4.10's, go with the t-rex, although they're not exactly friendly for street driving... anything over .600 lift is pretty much a track-only kind of deal, I'd say the 240/240 is probably your best best for track/driveability/max power combo.

Re: Big Cams

The 240/240 won't clear. I might be a little biased but I think your best bet will be the MS3. I daily drive mine and love it. We've got a couple of cars out there that run 10's with this cam and one is the customers daily driver. When running a big cam in a daily driver, the tune makes all the difference.

Here is a graph with the MS3, bolt-ons & stock heads.

Re: Big Cams

Piston to valve not only has to do with lift it has to do with valve events, IE hanging the intake open longer (ie more at .050) lets the piston get closer to TDC before the valve starts to close. Thus a cam with more duration at .050, or in general, has a greater chance of comming in contact with the piston.

Clear as mud?

My definition of what clears(safely) is different than others.

Re: Big Cams

Go with the TREX Damnit!
Besides, it will be cool to say...."I'm running the T-REX"
You said you don't mind the big cam issues, so go with the big cam.
