Re: Best Headers for LS1

best for price i think are the pacesetters (like $350 i think...)
best performing i think are the SLPs and FLPs (major bucks here over $750) (don't flame please, i know SLP and FLP are highly debated)

Personally I like the Jet Hot LT's, very nice headers and have the Best coating too. Only $525 shipped, middleweight price range.

I have the FLP LT headers. What I like about them is you can run ORP or cats and only 30 minutes to change them.

I say QTP. They are all equal lenght like the SLP and FLP, but they also have longer tubes and are stainless steel. They also fit with no modding to anything and tuck up very nice to the frame with no rattleing.

Re: Best Headers for LS1

keep in mind that technically if you move the cats its against fed law. so shorties are the only legal header. bbk, jba. longtubes for low cost pacesetters or flowtech. mid range hooker (web guys claim good ground clearence) cadillacs are qtp, flp, slp, tpis. good luck.

Re: Best Headers for LS1

bombd84, so your saying with the QTP there is not cutting of the k-member or other mods that have to be done for these guys to fit? Any other headers like that? I want headers, but dont want to cut up the car at all.

Re: Best Headers for LS1

Hooker/Jet-Hot/Pacesetter/Flowtech - are the same design header (Edelbrock possibly)
QTP/Kooks/Dynatech/Grott - are the same design header
FLP/Supermaxx - are the same design header
SLP - has its own configuration.

SLP and Hooker clones are the closest to equal length. I don't think any of them actually are.

The defferencs are in material and construction quality. I had no fitement issues with my Jet-Hots.

Re: Best Headers for LS1

Yes, tubes are tubes and that means, alot of different makers are similar to each other. One thing that seems to differ a bit though are the collector designs. Kooks uses a merge-type collector in their standard LS1 header where as some of the others offer it as an "option". So pay attention to the different collector designs.
Claims of "equal length" don't mean much one way or the other. I wouldn't worry about that. I'd look at flange thickness, welding, collector design and ground clearance. I've seen the TPIS headers on LS1's before and the ground clearance is very good!
Also never use a flange with a raised lip on it.. more trouble than they're worth.

Happy hunting.

I'm running Dynatechs and they are nothing like Grots. Slip on merge collectors so you can tune the length of the tubes. Excelllant fit and finish. Good ground clearance.

I was speaking about tube configuration and basic length. On second thought I may be thinking of Thunder Racing headers, but I want to say Dynatechs as well.

Re: Best Headers for LS1

All the header listed on here have there own pro's
and con's, but all do about the same HP. I like the
flowtech which is a hooker header but a better price
& fits better.

It has been a while since I read this, but there was comparsion of the QTP (might have been by QTP themselfs) but they flowed the most HP compared to any other. I think FLP and Kooks were the closest.

Re: Best Headers for LS1

Hedman is now making long tubes for LS1's that are part of their Torque Step line of headers. They are a 1 5/8" into 1 3/4 design (first 12" of header is 1 5/8, then after that tapering into 1 3/4). I know Pacesetters are the best value, but does anyone know any specifics on these Hedmans? The company has a good reputation and I don't think they're gonna want to take chances on a motor that'll be mass produced for a long time.
