Best Cam to Get

Hey Ive been reading up on some previous cam posts, from what I hear gm hot cams are pretty sweet, I was wondering though, I need a cam that will take me to at least 400 hp ( with lid, exhuast and headers), and from the sounds of it, the TREX came sounds pretty vicioius but my car is a daily driver, so I dont want to give up driveability or reliablity, so is this still a good choice or would someone care to recommend another?

I can't recall the company right now, but I know that the 224/224 cam is very street friendly with a good tune. I remember a couple years back when that cam was considered the "big-boy", and now I see many people going 231/237.

But yeah, only thing I can say is don't waste your money on the hotcam. My buddy has one in his Hawk and it's just a waste of money. Sure, you'll get power, but why not get ALOT of power for all the money you'll be spending?

EDIT: I noticed you're from Woodbridge. Are you in EFA by any chance?

Both the Trex and the 224/224 rsdragster was talking about are from Thunder Racing. Check out thier cam section for 98-02 LS1 Fbody's. Several of their cams have dyno graphs with mods listed to show what kind of power they are making including both cams listed above. I would give you a link but my computer won't open their website right now.

Okay here is the link

I am running the TR230 cam, cat back and lid, no headers (stock manifolds and cats) and a basic home tune. I am putting down 371. So a little more tune and LT's I should be around 400 hopefully/ Just to give you an idea.

I went for tyhr hotcam kit because I heard it ran well on the stock tune. It didnt. After paying $530 for a dyno tune, I wish I went bigger. the TR 230 looks good, also check out the TSP 231/237.

I just had a cam put in by Mikey at Rapid Motorsports.
224/228/114 0.578 lift. Mine is driven mostly on the street also. Dyno results: 374.1/rwhp, 369.8/rwtq. Torq curve reaches 350 at 3200rpm and peaks at 369.8 at 5000rpm. Runs well.

just get a G5X2 from LG Motorsports. Or even the X3. Works well and produces lots of power. its a nice medium when compared to the TREX cam. You'd be able to drive on the street no problem

I live on Bolling AFB in southeast D.C. It's not far from Alexandria.

So are you in any groups? If not you'll have to take a trip up north and we can meet up
