Bent rod or collapsed lifter? (clicking)

So I could hear a lifter or rod ticking for a while now, but now when i get on it at around 1k-2k then once again at 4k-5k i hear a loud ticking/clanking. I never thought it to be a problem before but now its very noticeable. Should I get to work on my cam/heads install ASAP and get the rods replaced or am i good to drive it for another couple weeks? I'd think that a couple bent rods would have some effect on performance, but on the way back from dallas 2 days ago i raced a C5 on the highway and whipped him all the way up to 140 before he chickened out, so i'm confused as to what my click/ticking is.

Also, if it is a lifter or two, what should I do to replace them, should i get the summit morel ls1 replacement set?

Well I guess my real question since I know something isn't right, is: Should I go ahead and purchase a new set of lifters, or can I rest assured that its only a pushrod or two?

I was planning on the cam/heads install in about 2 weeks, but if I have to order some lifters, I dont wanna have to have the car taken apart and find out then, and wait another week.

cuuzzz lifters are a few hundred more. I'm on a college budget.. =(

But really is that just a rod symptom or also a possible lifter symptom?

You can never assume that it's any particular part. Buddies 2000 Formy has a bad tick in it. We changed the lifters, rockers, pushrods, and heads. It still does it and we still can't find the cause.
And we can't diagnose it over the internet. We can give opinions on what it might be but you're going to have to diagnose it yourself

I'll second that. When I had a new engine four years ago I had header leaks twice. New gaskets and tightening bolts fixed both times. Then I had the same ticking noise but no header leak. When I pulled the engine I found the main bearings all shot after only 3500 miles. The noise was very much the same from inside the car but with a stethoscope you could tell it came from inside the engine and low.

hmm. well i've ruled out the gaskets and y pipe connections, and egr, so its no exhaust. The weird thing is the rpms its coming on at, and that it only seems t odo it in a higher gear, at low speeds when i bog it down, or at high rpms. anyhting in the middle or at normal acceleration, no noise

gauging from my experience, some LS1's are bad about bending pushrods. My buddie's TA bent 2 sets of stockers b4 he bought the good ones. But then again he kind of drives like a moron.

thanks for the help. I suppose I'll jsut assume its pushrods and if I take it apart and find a bad lifter, I'll deal with it then

Yeah we came to that conclusion too. It has a twin turbo set up on it putting down 550+ rwhp and even with the clatter going on it still won't blow up. We're leaning towards a loose wrist pin. There's no metal shavings in the oil or filter on changes. So that rules out rod or main bearings.
