Bad Clutch??

Hey guys,
My 2000 SS is my first stick shift car and so I'm kind of a newbie in that respect. Lately when I really floor it in 1st it seems like the revs shoot from 4k to 5k alot faster than they used to. Like in the blink of an eye. Course, it feels lfaster than it used to as well. I don't know if its the engine just accelerating faster, or the clutch slipping. there is no odd noise and no abnormal clutch smell. When the clutch goes bad, where does the slippage show itself? Thanx

Bad Andy

Thumbs up

My 98 Z28 is my first manual as well, but I haven't noticed quicker rev's than usual. It seems to me if your clutch was slipping it would be far more obvious than what you're describing. I imagine if it was slipping you'd hear some sort of grinding noise, probably similar to the noise of not engaging the clutch fully when under hard acceleration and high rpm's. My clutch pedal feels softer in general than when I first got the car and sometimes less smooth shifting so to avoid experiencing a blown clutch and being stuck God knows where, I ordered a McLeod Rev-Lock II, it'll be here Monday.

If your clutch was going bad you would notice an increase in RPMs without the expected increase in speed, this would be most noticable when the car was under load (climbing a hill and attempting to accelerate for example)
