Back at SLP and IDA automotive today

I have been to SLP before...but I must say that I was thoroughly impressed with the setup at IDA Automotive on Texas Rd. in Morganville, NJ. They mandated that I come there prior to committing to the job, and now I see why. This place MUST be where ZZ Top has their custom hot rods built, because that is exactly the kind of cool stuff they were doing there. And there is no sign in the front, just a bandana wrapped around a mailbox at the head of the road/driveway that leads to this custom hot rod palace. They saw my SS and were enthusiastic about getting the project going.

I am going with SLP subframe connectors -- pn 70801

http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=70801

SLP Long Tube Headers -- pn 30049

http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=30049

SLP Loud Mouth - pn 31039
http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...RTNUMBER=31039

And of course 160 thermostat, free flow cats and the air box lid and filter

I am thinking that a dyno reading afterwards will yield something in the 400+ range. With the headers, everyone at SLP and IDA agree that the PCM tuning will be the key. That should be adequate to smoke any of these punks in cobras running around here! Not that this would not happen as is, but I love hitting the hazards within a few seconds.

If anyone has any input or ideas that might affect a change in my approach, I would be listening. Thanks.

If all you have is LT headers I doubt you'll hit 400+ rwhp with that set up, what brand of dyno do they use at IDA?

Get your car dyoned before the install so you can see what gains you've really have made, I have no idea what mods you've done to the engine if any but if you haven't done any I still don't think you will hit the numbers you quoted. Good luck and keep us up-dated on your results.

LOL...SLP claims "UP TO" 40 horsepower with the use of their LT headers. Don't fall for their marketing scheme.

I think you're going to come up about 50hp short unless you have other mods not mentioned here. No one has ever proven to have gotten close to 400rwhp without touching the heads or the cam.

The 40hp claim is marketing as noted. If you have a nice head & cam in the car and you're still running stock manifolds and cats, you could probably get to that 40hp by switching to headers and then dynotuning, but on a bolt on car, you're only talking 15-20hp.

Sorry to break it to you.

Yep, with lid, filter, headers, and loudmouth. Maybe 350 at the wheels.

I wouldnt pay that price for those headers though. Cheapest I seen was at please do not link to non supporting advertizers sites Just check em out. I was really serious about buying them but I was afraid it was to loud. I got the LM and its plenty for me. I got my 3.73 gears to and that makes alot of difference. Youll come out about the same for headers or gears. $525.00 Directly from SLP for the Ring and Pinion, Installation kit, and a differential <---Not bad at all. Just another option if you decide to change your mind. My speed according to a GTECH is in my signature with just Gears and exhaust.

I read somewhere how SLP got that crazy figure.
I think it was a H/C car with stock manifolds for
the base run, then added LTs.

sorry, youll come nowhere near 400rwhp with the mods you listed.add a cam and tune and you should come close though.

yeah agreed. the only way LTs are going to give you 40 rwhp is if you go from a stock exhaust with a huge head/cam package...then if you opened it up you might see 40 peak.Don't get me wrong, LTs are definitely an recommended mod either
way.
