Just my experience, A friend of mine told me to jack up the car when I installed mine, but we tried it with out jacking up the car. Had a heck of a time trying to install it. In fact we couldn't get it right. We finally jacked up the car and the dang thing went right on. Just in case you get into any trouble try that.
