Re: Auto vs Manual

Assuming they're both completely stock, including tires, and that they're either both '98-00 or both '01-02, and that both are driven by drivers who have "perfect" launch technique, the M6 (manual) will probably beat the A4 by a tenth or two.

A torque converter on the A4 would level the playing field.

Come on, Mike, he's new. Some slack would be nice.

firemblem, he's laughing at you because in the performance car world, we talk about the quarter mile times, not 0-60.

The difference would still be just a couple tenths, and a torque converter would still level the playing field.

Re: Auto vs Manual

Too close to call . Driver error will more often than not slow down the manual since most drivers aren't really that great at launching and shifting (as much as you think you are). I've seen too many LS1 cars ('Vettes & F-bodies ... and even Z06's) run crappy times at the track when they're 6-speeds.

0 - 60 times should be roughly even regardless of the transmission ... same goes for 1/4 mile times. Too many other variables to consider besides arguing about the tranny.
