Anyone put cruise control on a car?
I got my car with almost no options.. was the one they had.. wasnt my choice.. but I dont miss anything but the cruise control.
I was thinking of buying the parts from Hal or somewhere to get the peices to put factory cruise control on. Is this possible?
If anyone has done it, what all would I need? So far, I am guessing that I would be needing the servo/cable assembly and the turn signal stalk.
TIA!

I bought the Audiovox unit from JC Whitney for $89. Its the same one they have on their website for $109. (When they shipped it there was a sale paper in the box and they had it on sale for $69) It was a simple installation once I found where my tach wire and the wire that gives you the mileage pulses were. I found that info at LS1.COM under FAQ. They have the PCM wiring diagram for your car that tells you what color and what pin number every wire is. Under the hood, mine looks like a factory installation, everybody that looks at it assumes it is. I thought about changing the control stalk but eneded up putting the control head that came with it in the ashtray. It is very accessible but you can close the lid and nobody even sees it. The only hole I had to cut was in the bottom of the ashtray and I can always replace that. There are also needed wires in the console that made it very convenient to hook up there. I use the cruise every day. I would be glad to email you some pictures of my installation and if you get the same unit I could send you some detailed pics with some installation hints. The kit comes with almost everything you need. I had to buy the right clip for my throttle cable and 2 inches of the right size vacuum line, everything else was included. I'm travelling now so it will be a couple of days before I could take pictures but let me know if you want them.

I appreciate the reply and its good to know I have options..
I will continue to persue the factory look, but I will also be sure to keep in mind that you have an aftermarket kit that is clean and what seems to be a straight forward install.
Thank you for you posting!

I didn't know,
That you could get a Z28 stripped. Everyone I saw pretty much had power everything. Leather, T-Tops, and a CD Changer was the only thing that you normally had to add.

mine only has the hurst and the t-tops.. no other options installed. All the other norms liek power locks and seats are part of an option package I didnt get. I love it cause it will be a little lighter... but not terribly much lighter than a loaded one..
I would never sacrifice such luxuries as "power everything" just to have the car a little lighter. THen again thats just me.
Nothing better than having your Z28 on cruise controll while cruising from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

Considering I bought mine 1 month ago, the pickins were slim.. but as I look into myself I find that the car comes as it was intended for me. When first I looked at owning a Z28, I wanted a minimalists car.. Now, not so many years later.. I HAVE IT... This is the car that was intended for me..
All I wish for it to have is cruise control for my many trips to Dallas from Houston.
Quite simple request really.... I shall call Dal in the morning to see what he can put together for me...

Hey crazylettuce, I liked the way you put that..."minimalist". Thats what I wanted. I have a Suburban for hwy cruisin but sometimes take the camaro to work (1 hr drive) and thats why I put cruise on it. I have a vision for this car when the warranty is up. Kinda like a new 69 version. Not very refined but loud and fast. I'm even going to put skinnies up front and go as wide as I can in the rear. In my vision, power windows and multiple disc changer seem out of place.
Enjoy your new car!

Ok.. got my reply from Dal: "hi, there is no gm dealer kit but gm has licensed many aftermarket companies that do stereo's, etc to sell the gm add on package for cruise control, power door locks, etc. the kit is about 125.00 from them.
i added up the t/s arm, cable, module and harness and these are 350.00 and does not include the other items needed. there is also no list of parts you would need, as not sure what your car already has on it, but this will give you a idea on costs"
So... now its time to hit some junk yards to see what all I am needing for this...
This page has some stuff:
http://www.mnrelectronics.com/roscruiscon.html
But what I need to know now is if our cars have electronic cruise controls or if they NEED cables or what..
So I am still researching..
I feel a future how to in the making.. hehe
