Post Anyone know what kits works to put freon in the compressor?

The previous owner of the car said the freon would run out. And it did. Now I need to put in some more. Have a can of some type of stop leak? Do those actually work. What kit I buy and where exactly do I put the freon in. I do see the compressor with a screw on plastic cap which looks like where it's supposed to go. If anyone had pics to show me. Sure would help. The car is a 98 Z28.

The first thing is that your car does not use freon, but a new type of refridgerant called R-134a. You can buy kits at the auto parts store to fill the system, and they come with pressure gauges to make sure you don't overfill it. However, you really need to take the car in and get it evaulated and have the problem fixed correctly. Just filling it up won't do any good in the long run. You have to pull a vacuum on the system for a certain amount of time to eliminate all water in the system or else it will be destroyed from the inside out. Just take it to a shop that know what they are doing. THey can fill it properly and add a dye so you can find the leaks and get them fixed before you have an even bigger repair bill. Also, maybe find out from the previous owner why the ac begin to leak all of its refridgerant out in the first place. Good luck with it.

Well, he said he would just refill it once it all leaked out. Sounds kind of stupid to me. I have the kit and a dye kit but it doesn't seem to hook up correctly. I'm going to let my friend work on it. He works at Firestone and would know how to fix the leak and add the r13.

Thanks dude. I thought that was where it went. The only thing was that it didn't seem too hook up to the connection good. And just to the right. There is this black thing right by the place where you add the refrigerant. That sure makes it difficult to to squeeze that hose in. If I had a digital camera. I would show you it.
