Anyone here got a fast car with 2.73 gears?
ChrisLS1Bird and others:
Thanks for the clarification, I know that I don't know anything about cars, I never meant to imply that I did. I'm trying to learn. So when I'm persistent, its cause I'm trying to understand the answer that was given to me, not just know it. I was under the impression that aluminum doesn't rust. Apparently I'm wrong. Also the replacement of the rear end indication was part numbers written on all over the rear on several parts. I figured that if the replaced the rear, they might put whatever was cheapest back on. Thanks for saving me 500 bucks by not having to replace my gears. I was happy with my Z28 until I saw my 1/4 mile time. Obviously, its me and not the car. You guys have been a big help in all of this. Thanks

My 01 Z28 ran 13.005 @ 106.44 with just a FIPK, cutout, and 275/35/18 drag radials. Note the heavy 18s too. On my stock tires I could spin them all day if I wanted to and it felt really strong out of the hole, but with the drag radials its 100% traction and it feels painfully slow off the line, but if it can run 13.0s all day the only problem is in the SOTP meter.

I feel like a jerk, and I'm sorry if you felt anything was directed at you. Did you try the calculator? Let me if know I can help you out on anything...and keep working on that 1/4 mile. I wasn't born a good driver. Your '00 should be good for mid 13s at 105-107 mph at Thunder Valley (which is 1300 ft above sea level)..that's where I ran the times in my sig. I shifted at 6200 in 1st and 6000 in 2nd and 3rd.

Well, I don't buy that you knew it was an M6 when you last posted. But, suppose you did...
The gears could have been changed to 2.73, but that would be completely illogical and would probably make his first gear reach 60 mph, second gear reach ~90 mph, and 3rd gear reach 115 or 120 mph. The car would have a tremendous bog in 1st gear (I know this because it already has a moderate bog with 3.42s), so there would be no question about something being wrong.
No offense, GoFast, but you don't have an M6, and it appears that you have never driven an M6. I, on the other hand, have. If you think ~5500 rpm @90 mph in 3rd gear is off base and indicative of 2.73s, you're wrong. That's normal and indicative of 3.42:1 gears.

Well..............No offense taken. I know I don't have an M6. But I have driven one. Not for very long, and when I did, I wasn't paying much attention to the rpms or mph when shifting. I've been driving a manual transmission car (before the camaro) for 4years. I know how and when to shift just by hearing it. So, when I saw the rpm and mph that he listed, it seemed close to the 2.73, so thats what I thought he had (and i think he said 90 in 2nd). Anyway i was enjoying the M6 way too much to note every little thing about the engine speed and mph.
I did know it was an M6. I read everyone's sig. I was just allowing for the REMOTE POSSIBILITY that someone made a very ILLOGICAL decision and put 2.73 in the M6. I admit, someone going from 3.42 to 2.73 in a manual is a little stupid, but I was just trying to keep an open mind thats all.
Hey, no harm done. Now I know a little more about the M6. You learn something new everyday.

Since you're driving a 6-speed, there's more room for error than with an auto, but with practice I'm sure you're car has the potential to hit mid 13's --- almost all LS1's do eventually
. Hey, even my car perked up this year and started hitting 13.4's to 13.6's consistently! And that was before the gear swap to 3.73's
. I went back to the track once, but now traction is a serious issue, so I didn't run any better
.......oh well!

what about us with a M6? Do we still have the dead spots your talking about, and would a stall converter help? Would 3.42s help gas milage around town? Also, I love how my car pulls on the highway, how much of that is lost with the 3.42s?
