Anyone here got a fast car with 2.73 gears?
I know the 2.73 gears is for mileage on the highways but how much pottential do they have. Or they just junk? I heard the 2.73s arn't good for takeoff but have great top end.
1st time at the track with my bone-stock '00 i got a 13.9 @ 102. not too bad for close to 70* and high humidity. that was even with the paper filter. consistent 2.1 60' times, so the gears don't hold you back too badly. the killer for my times seemed to be when the tranny was shifting to 3rd just before the traps.
i plan on keeping them. they are just right for in-town fun. 30-35 mph kick-down is brutal!

damn I need to find a track and run my car there.. My car has 2.73 gears and it is not sluggish at all, actually quite the opposite for the fact that if I floor it w/ it being in either Drive or O/D, my rear tires spin untill I let off!! Not quite as bad as my 68 C10 (since it has 3.73s) but if I take off at a green light, my car will take off faster then most cars except a 03 Z06 Vette though....

My car with a cutout, lid, filter, and 2.73s went 13.24@106.45
900' altitude, 75*, 70% humidity, 2.05 60', 3700# race weight w/ driver.
Going to 3.73s with almost identical traction and conditions netted me what's in my sig on the motor with the same mods as above. .3/10 and 2mph, not too shabby

2.73 and A4
The good thing is you have good traction with that gear. And yes at 40-50mph there is a dead spot because of the gear. The upside it puuls like a train on the highway.
I think a converter will be next.

I only went to the track once where I could actually see what the car could do and pulled a best 13.57@106 with a 2.2 60 foot. My car has ground FX and I had 400 extra pounds in car with me and stereo equipment, etc. I went to track a second time and the temp was 112 degree's at the track and could not pull a good time. Best that day was a 13.9..but at 112 I can see why. I was launching at very low rpms and hardly making tires break loose. When I launched at higher rpms my times went to mid 14s. Elevation at track is around 1,400 feet too, so that doesn't help. I found that at around 105 I hit redline in drive, so I have to make sure I put it in OD to avoid the fuel cutoff from kicking in(happened a few times). I figure a 13 flat or better with some of the extra weight removed. I also ran my best time when I shifted the A4 myself, 1/10th faster than when computer shifted.

My car sucks from a roll at certain speeds
Right after it shifts the LS1 really doesn't make much power and it's a long wait with the 2.73's and the A4
13.08 @ 108.51, 4,000 miles on the car, just a SLP Lid and Loudmouth.
The guy I bought my Loudmouth from had 2.73's and he ran 12.8 @ 111 or something, he had gutted cats, no swaybar, and an aluminum driveshaft (I have the stock steel one) He also ran a 1.88 I think...

My car ran the time in the sig, and it's pretty darn close to stock (except the lid/filter, and I had the Hypertech installed to firm the shifts, and raise the shift points). 13.4 seems good to me! Especially compared to the 14.0 I ran last year when it was extremely hot, humid, and a bunch of Ricers drove through the water box getting water all over the start line
. I've got new LCA's and LCA relocation brackets on order to try helping my traction a little, but I still may need DR's or E/T Streets
, and hopefully I could get the time down 1 or 2 tenths.

gears?
How can I find out what gears my car has I bought the car used and me and my dad have been trying to figure out a way to find out what gears I have 2.73s 3.23s I have no clue is there any way to find out?
Look at the sticker on the inside of your drivers side door and look for any of these codes. If you have a GU2 in there you have the 2:73 gears like myself. If you have the GU5 code in there you have the 3:23 gear option.
GU2 Axle Ratio 2.73, Rear
GU4 Axle Ratio 3.08, Rear
GU5 Axle Ratio 3.23, Rear
GU6 Axle Ratio 3.42, Rear
GU2 Axle Ratio 2.73, Rear
GU4 Axle Ratio 3.08, Rear
GU5 Axle Ratio 3.23, Rear
GU6 Axle Ratio 3.42, Rear
