Anyone here go from an LT1 to an LS1?

I might sale my 97 Z28 and get a 02 WS6. Was going from an LT1 to an LS1 a good choice? Did you regret it? Thanks for the help...

Not to diss any LT1 owners, but an '02 WS6 will both perform worlds better and look a lot better than your '97. I can't see anyone arguing that.

I agree, The new WS6 looks mean as hell. Plus the LS1 is an excellent motor even if some of the go fast parts are a rip right now!!

i miss my LT1 for its low end off the line grunt

but as soon as i hit about 20mph in the LS1 its all over

the LT1 sure was a lot more fun to drive stoplight to stoplight though...

I have owned my '97 for four years now and I recently purchased a '00 SS. I had always wanted a SS and I was planning on selling my '97 when I got the SS. Turns out, the SS is nothing special and there's no way I'm selling my '97. Now I'm keeping both cars and the SS is my daily driver and the 97 is a weekend/track car.

The WS6 is a nice car, but the newness fades quickly and you may start wondering why you wasted $10-13k for the 'upgrade'.

you wont regret it at all. i had a 96 formula with just about all the boltons and when i test drove the T/A i have now, it felt as fast or faster and it was stock. i dont know what is so special about an LT1's "low end". the ls1 has a much better tq curve and makes more power. you can never tell when you get to the redline in the ls1. it just keeps pulling harder. it was scary when i first drove it. which brings me to my next point, you WILL get used to the power, and you WILL modify it. if thats what you mean by get tired of it, then yeah you will. but if you drive a powerful car every day it wont feel powerful to you. just take someone for a ride and watch their head and body snap back even on light driving. its fun.

I've never drone an LS1 but unless you are upgrading for looks, you can make an LT1 just as fast. Definitly not dissing LS1 cause they are the dominant engine over all (except price)

I went from an LS1 to an LT1 back to an LS1 due to past financial issues. I love my '99 T/A and you will love the WS6. I disagree about the torque advantage of the LT1 over the LS1. I don't think it's noticeable when comparing the two. The LT1 may have slightly more down low but I couldn't tell. You can easily make your LT1 as fast as an LS1 if you go with a cam and headers (that's what I did). Stock for stock you're getting about a 40 horse advantage over the LT1 and in the WS6's case much better looks!

I went to an '02 WS6 from a '96 Z28. I gave my LT1 to my little brother. Off the line he has me. But when I hit 2nd gear up to ~3500 rpm....it's all over. I have to say I enjoy them both, but if I had to chose....I'd go with the LS1.

Went from a 97SS to a 99 c5 and a 2000 SS, I've never looked back. I'm sure i'll say the same about the ls2.

I went from a '97 Z28 to a '98, and never regretted it. The LT1 is a fine motor, but I like the LS1 a little better.

I went from an automatic 95 TransAm to a manual 98 Z28. All other things aside, I prefer the LS1 engine from a performance standpoint. Parts are more costly for the LS1, and I think the LS1 is easier to work on. Doesn't matter how much low-end grunt you have if you can't hookup

No rear intake manifold leak like the LT1, but some LS1's have piston slap, etc. Pick your poison.

I had a stock 96 ta,then traded up to a 97 taws6 and modded that a lot no heads or headers or cam but all the other bolt ons.
I then traded again when the new ls1s came out.Got a 99 taws6.
Have put a lot of mods into it and its decently fast but haven't hit 12s due to our altitude here and street tires. It runs low 13s with cam, headers and all the other bolt ons.I am at 1900 feet.
I just bought a 96 vert for the wife last year and me ..verts are great fun and with simple mods its hit a high 13 once.Usually it runs low 14s.Here is my opinions.I do think the lt1 has better torque lower down than the ls1.This is felt off the lights .Now I think if you have an ls1 you should put in 3.73 gears or 4.10 if its an m6 and 3.43 or 3.73 if its an auto. The lt1 seem overgeared on street tires with 4.10.had those in my 97 made me slower and think 3.42 is fine or even 3.23 in lt1 autos.I like the sound of the lt1 engines better.I like the looks of the lt1 engine bay a bit better I think the ls1 engine bay is fugly.I like the looks of my 99taws6 a lot.I love the front end, love the side air extractors and the honeycomb taiilights.I like the fact the ls1 has no stupid opticrap and doesn't get leaks at the back of the intake manifold like my 97 did.Don't think my 96 is leaking.

The ls1 is pretty easy to work on,easier to change plugs than lt1 and easier to change out wires.Much easier to change out cam you don't even have to take intake manifold off the ls1 for that.

Weaknesses..ls1 need better than stock valve springs especially on the m6 cars.I think the lt1 has better clutch system.Slave is inside the tranny on the ls1.I think the lt1 had better build t 56s altough my lt1 seemed to have neutral rattle and my ls1 none.

My ls1 has piston slap when cold.My lti might have it slightly or that might have been air pump noise ,took air pump off and will see in next few days when get water pump changed in the lt1.

Think thats pretty much it.Lt1 is a bit cheaper to mod up.Ls1 seems to respond a bit better to mods.ls1 put out around 350 at the engine m6 cars and the newer ones like 2001 /02 almost always.Lt1 cars put out close to rated power.
