Sounds like a dead battery.

Make sure that you are pushing the clutch pedal all of the way down. If it's not all of the way down to make the clutch safety switch then the car won't spin over to start.

two easy steps:

take it to napa and have them test the battery, that will tell you if you are not getting enough juice.

second try checking all the connections on the starter, including all gounds. a bad ground will easily cause the starter to not turn the engine, but enough to make a sound

I am pretty sure its not the battery, because it will start after a few tries. Its almost like the key doesnt turn it to the point where its supposed to start the starter. All of the other accesories come on also(stereo, etc).

I was having the same problem with my 81 k5 blazer then one day it wouldn't do anything. I took off the starter, took it to napa to have it checked, failed the test, replaced the starter and had no problems since. I know it's a different engine but I think the starters are pretty much the same. Just something you might want to consider.

Actually if it were the VATS the car would run for a few seconds then die and the security light would turn on.

Same thing happened in my LT1. The wires and bolts were bad and so was the battery. Isn't very expensive at all to fix and yes, I was embarresed when it wouldn't turn over.

Here's my $0.02....

If there is NO electricity runing through the car (ie, the radio doesn't run and the light don't work.... it's either a bad battery OR a bad negative wire connection between the battery and the ground.

If you have electrical power, but NOTHING on the start, it can be one of the following: 1. Bad starter or start solonoid (on the starter) 2. internally broken wire from the battery to the starter. 3. Loose wire connection to the starter. 4. Bad ignition switch (in the steering column.

Of these problems, a bad starter is the most likely culprit, especially if the car has 60K-100K miles on it. A loose connection to the starter or a broken wire from the positive batery cable can also cause these symptoms with an intermittent start. The battery cable can be checked by unhooking it and checking resistance with a multi-meter. A break in the wire will cause a very high resistance reading, which can impede starting.

It's possible that the gnition switch itself is bad..... but these rarely die, unless you have VERY high mileage. Possible, but not likely. I'd check the other problem areas first.

Hope this helps.
