anybody run the ASA cam? Video would be good
The ASA was designed for road racing, is that what you're wanting to do or do you just want more lope??? There are much better cams than the ASA.
What Comp grind are you running? I've seen baby 220 duration grinds make 380 whp. I also know of some very smooth idling cams that can put down numbers like that. Lope just means you have more overlap.

My cam is the Comp 228/230 571/573 112LSA. I like the cam but I just wonder how hard on the springs it will be. I had the 918s at first and now I am using the Patriot golds duals. I like the lope of my cam so that is not a concern. Maybe I worry too much but I was just thinking if I didn't have so much lift it would be better on the springs and would last longer. I like the specs on the ASA because it does have a nice duration to it but not a ton of lift. If I knew how it would perform compared to mine I would switch. I like lope and reliability and good power.
What's the advertised duration? I've been searching for it, but I can't find it. You can get an estimation of how aggressive the lobes are if you have the advertised duration and duration at .050".
Anyway, lobe aggression is going to play more of a factor of how quickly a cam eats valvesprings than just lift alone.
You sound like you want a cam ground on an oldschool lobe or an XE grind. I'd stay away from the XE-R or LSK grinds if you're looking for spring longevity. However, there's always a trade-off. Typically, you're not going to make as much power as a cam with an aggressive ramp rate.

Your comp looks like an XE grind. Those have been street driven for quite some time now so I personally wouldn't worry about it with the gold springs. Actually by today's standards its about the norm.
The ASA cam specs @ .050 are:
226/236 .525/.525 110
For some reason I was remembering the ASA with more intake duration....
Pretty mild cam and mild lobes. I'm driving daily on a 226/226 .590/.590 112 w/patriot gold springs. This is an XER grind and I'm alright with it. I don't race a lot so my springs will last longer than someone who races weekly.
Anyway, if you like low lift and slow ramp rate cams look at Crane and Lunati also. Actually you can still get mild comp grinds. LPE has some like the GT2-5. These are the lobes that first came on the LS1 scene.
The thing to think about is this. If you are running an aftermarket cam, you should still check your springs regularly, not matter how mild. I've seen springs break on even milder cams than the ASA.
