Post Anybody here ever hear of this tuner?

I was looking through the current issue of GM High Tech Performance Magazine and saw an add for a tuning device similar to the HyperTech one called the Predator. It is made by Diablo Sport. The add says it's available for LS1 F-bodies and has a built in diagnostic scanner as well as power tuning capabilities. It seems to perform all the functions that the HyperTech one does with the added benefit of a built in diagnostic scanner. Has anybody here heard of or used this product themselves? Any comments or remarks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It'll be available in about 2 weeks. Price will be about $500.

It has all the basic OBDII scan functionality ... including clearing codes. The programing has lot more flexabilty and capabilty built into it than the HPP3 ... but not the wide open functionality of LS1 Edit.

Looks like it will fit a niche for those of us that need more than the HPP3, but don't want to get into all the detail of LS1 Edit and ATAP.

Will it let you change your idle speed at least?

I know that's one thing Hypertech won't let you do that could be really useful, esp. for cam installs.

from what i have heard it is supposed to be similar to ls1 edit except you dont need a lab top. it doesnt have all the features of ls1 edit but i heard that it is close.

squirrels ... I e-mailed them and asked specifically about idle . The response Igot was that idle was part to the base program and not readily adjustable. Other adjustments, such as fuel and spark tables are adjustable within safe parameters.

This description is what leads me to believe that is probably more like an HPP3 one or more programs available, but you can then go in and tweek the program to a certain extent for your own situatation.

Like I said above, this appears to be a niche, more than HPP3 but less than LS1 edit. That in and of itself is probably a value to some of us.

I think where this thing is going to shine is the OBDII functionality. Everything you need on one little box - no PC required. And you can clear codes, something ATAP or any of the other scan tools can't do.

If you figure $300 for an HPP3, a couple a hundred for ATAP, throw in the cost of a laptop ... this thing starts to look like a bargain for $500, covering all the above and more.

If it can't up the idle speed, it's worth about as much as a Hypertech to me.

Plus, some guy on LS1tech.com was saying something about how you have to download special software from DiabloSport's website to get different functionalities out of it. I'm not sure, but I'm trying to double-check it.

I was enthusiastic, but the fact that the company isn't talking about what it can do tends to indicate that it's a lot less than the hype following it.

Funny that you ask about them. They're going to be playing around with my car on Friday. I volunteered my car to be the "guinea pig" to see what they could do with a stock LS1. My friend had his car tuned(on a dyno) by them about a week ago. He has full exhaust and a lid and they got 7rwhp and 26rwtq out of it so they look pretty good so far.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hey Aaron, I live in Coral Springs. Where exactly is Diablo Sports shop in Boca? Also, I didn't know they had a dyno. How much do they charge for a dyno pull?

I believe they're somewhere off of 2nd Ave and Yamato. They don't have a dyno, we're just going over to Reith Motorsports in Boynton.
Some of the guys in SFFBA are trying to set up a "dyno day" at Reith for sometime this month, I haven't heard anything in a while though. Price was going to be around $40 for three pulls. Since I'm dynoing tommorow, you could take my spot if you're interested.
