I was wondering if it's worth the $ for an aluminum flywheel. I'm going to have to get my stock one resurfaced when i install the new clutch, so i figured i would look at other options.

What are your experiences with them?

What gains can i expect?

What losses can i expect if any?

They are OK if you are not planning a cam or heads. A few guys I know could not get their cars to idle right with an AL fly even doing the drill mod and using LS1 edit. They had to go back to steel.

 

I've already got a cam in the car...I bought the car wrecked from Texas like i do all the rest that i have owned.. I heard that the guy put $7500 in the motor and i'm pretty sure that it's got a set of heads on it...

 

I'd say the choice between an aluminum flywheel and steel flywheel depends on your application... A lightweight aluminum flywheel will get your car going through rev's faster and is ideal for road racing when you're staying in the higher rpm range, but for daily driving and/or drag racing, I'd recommend staying away from a lightweight aluminum flywheel. With aluminum your car will not idle as well and not be ideal for daily driving. On the other hand, steel flywheels can be close to or slightly lighter than stock flywheel weight and still be stronger than the stock flywheel making it a good choice for drag racing and daily driving. I've know people who have installed an aluminum flywheel to remove it a month later because they couldn't bare driving it on regular basis.

 

Thanks for the info dude... I am starting to lean slightly to keeping my stock one and just getting it resurfaced and let my buddy install his aluminum flywheel in his WS6 and see what he has to say about it...
