All you guys who have a lot of miles on LS1
All you guys who have a lot of miles on LS1
I have 79,000 on my SS and was wondering when you start to have to replace the water pump and any other parts that might start to give way. So far I haven't had to do anything to it but the regular oil changes, think goodness. My LS1 has been great its been put to the test since I first got it when it had 16,000 on it.
Also when are these motors needing rebuilt? Any help would be appreciated, I'm just wanting to get a heads up on this so I'll be ready for it. I don't intend on ever getting rid of it.The transmission has been replaced twice now and the rear end twice.

Re: All you guys who have a lot of miles on LS1
In 90.5 K miles Chevrolet, on behalf of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, put in:
2 sets of carrier bearings
1 differential
1 PCM
1 Bank 1 (driver's side) Cat convertor
2 Batteries
1 Alternator
The NCHP put in:
Lots of tires
Lots of brake pads and rotors
1 set of valve springs
1 set of spark plugs
1 windshield
1 driver's door window motor and track
Since I have had it (1500 miles) I have put in:
1 axle
1 set axle bearings and seals
1 set carrier bearings
1 set pinion bearings and seals
1 bank 2 (passenger side) cat convertor
I do have a water pump on hand, but so far....knock on wood.

Re: All you guys who have a lot of miles on LS1
Two transmissions and two rears in 79,000 miles? Damn! I thought the 4L60E was stronger than that.
My car has 73,700 miles (I don't really consider that high mileage) and my waterpump started leaking and was replaced like 6,000 miles ago. I'd get yours replaced if you're worried and change all the belts and hoses just to be safe.
Here's what's went wrong with my car since I've had it:
- waterpump went bad
- power window motors went bad
- p.o.s. monsoon door speakers both blew out
- warped rear rotors
- brake booster went out
- leaky t-tops (now fixed)
- seal/gasket inside trans. went bad, caused a leak
- 2 clogged cats (under warranty)
- paint on roof panel is slightly bubbling
- headlights fogging

Re: All you guys who have a lot of miles on LS1
Thanks for the info so far guys.
Ya I blew the factory tranny at 35,000 and the second at 65,000. I raced every time I got a chance, to many burnouts I guess.
Same here the the freakin roof panel and foggy headlights.

My LS1 has 130k o it now and I have not sunk a dime into any thing breaking .
But the water pump was raplced on it right before i bought it . Around 90k . other then that , nothing has went wrong .I have put over 30k on it .
Re: All you guys who have a lot of miles on LS1
I have 78k miles on my SS and this is what has gone wrong since i bought it almost 2 years ago with 56k miles on it.
Air pump- was bad when i bought it
Thermostat-broke lose and jammed itself in the houseing i think its a freak thing cause it hasnt happened to alot of board members here
I need to replace:
clutch-too many smokey burnouts
aux electric fan-circuit blew out needs to be replaced
Pass side cat-got burnt out when the thermostat blew some how, gunna replace them both with SLP high flows followed by SLP loudmouth
Knock sensors-need to replace #2 knock sensor but i am just gunna replace them both to save time.
All in all i know i have alot to replace but for the most part its been nothing but nonsence items that need to be replaced. Such as the thermostat, and airpump electric fans, the normal maintenance stuff such as sensors and clutch. Hopefully after i get all that replaced i wont have to worry about anything for awhile..lol
Also i have heard ALOT of board members complaining about there LT1 cars. Yeah the blocks are Iron and a little more durable to forced induction etc, but i have heard dozens of stories of haveing to replace the opti multiple times, the intake seal, and water pump.

Re: All you guys who have a lot of miles on LS1
99 with 77,600 miles on her now.Water pump, 2 knock sensors,2 bad injectors,Vhevy had to clean the whole fuel system at 65,000 b/c of silicone in system, pass window motor, fuel pump, tranny mount, cant think of anything else. All that from 64,000 till now! MY extended warr paid itself off!
Question--Didn't want to start another Thread.
My Z has 22K on her and I was looking through the LS1 Speed website when I came across an SLP oil pump. It had listed in the description that the LS1 oil pumps are known to fail without warning.
How acurate is that statement? Have any of you had an oil pump failure and around what mileage? Anty advice would help-- Thanx-Concerned owner

65,000 on my 99 TA nothing yet since i bought it at 57,000 but i do know i need my passenger window motor replaced soon, seems to be common on our cars. btw do u know if an extended warranty will cover that
Re: All you guys who have a lot of miles on LS1
We have well over 125K miles on our 2001 SS (I am the first and only original owner) and the only thing that has failed from the factory was the bettery a couple of miles ago. Other than that it still runs great, it has been drag raced since 8K miles. The parts that have broken were due to racing and/or modifications.

Mine do as well.
I am at 62K , and up to now nothing major has gone out - lots of nit pick stuff during warranty.
Worse thing was the POS factory battery leaked out of the positive post (after warranty , of course !
) and screwed up the underhood paint, and the cable itself. Then, here recently, I had a P1416
code which turned out to be the passenger bank air system check valve - $ 15.00 later, and about a 1/2 hour of time & that was taken care of !
Well, that was until the 24th, when Mr. Tranny went Buh Bye !
Let's hope that my aftermarket warranty treats me well - we will see.
Motorwise, no problems there - warped rotors are a known defect on these cars, as well as the "glass rear ends".
7 & 5/8 " , or something like that - way too small & delicate to handle the power levels over time.
Window motors are also POS's , and ironically one of the reasons that I bought the warranty.
In theory, and from what I have read here, the LS1 is quite a reliable motor.
