Their is no Opti on an LS1. It's and individual coil pack system. I've never had any problems with mine, actually my LS1 has never had any problems

The disadvantage I notice is the low end torque on the LS1. From my experiances, the LT1 has more power down in the low engine speed. However, the LS1 makes up for it in mid to high end.

How much torque do you consider low???

The LS1 has enough torque for normal driving. LS1 just feels little weaker at low end compare to the LT1.
Anything below 300lb-ft I would consider low .

I have had no trouble with the actual motor itself... the trans/rear end however... thats another story

Check out the cam post i did yesterday, Trevor from Texas speed n performance has some nice info on head flow comparing LT1's to LS1's.... You will see the LS1 is by far the more superior motor.

the motor is a SWEET motor but it puts out enough power to break the rear ends if you have an m6 ( and yes i have an m6 and have torn up 2 rears in the 6 moths i've had it due to wheel hop and really sticky pavement)

I think some '98's had oil pump problems, but by 2003 any with bad pumps should have already shown themselves.
Piston slap is just noise and hasn't proven to shorten longevity.

They're lighter.
They are stronger.
They get better gas mileage.
They are a TON easier to work on.

What more could you want?

They are more expensive too buy though.

stock for stock my LS1 just blows away my old LT1.........and just about everything else on the road. Mods seem to add more power and the top end is insane. also it seems my 2002 Camaro has a much firmer chassis than my old Formula. I took the bird to 135 mph and I flet like I was about to loose control. Had my Z to 142 and it was solid like a rock. My bird had sfcs too! Got 13k miles now and 0 problems. But I do not rag on it like others do.

That issue has been blown way out of proportion.

There is the piston slap and valvetrain noises, but no long run problems have seemed to arisen from this. Noise is typical in an Aluminum black anyways.

Oil pumps in 2000 or earlier cars have ocassionally failed, though not many.

No other main issues.

So I understand you're saying that the stock LT1 typically dynos 300 RWTQ or more???
