Air pump question

This is probablly a dumb qusetion but, what function does the air pump serve. And also I'm putting LT's and ORY on this weekend and I'm eliminating the EGR, does this have anything to do with the EGR system and do I have to remove it as well. Sorry I if put in wrong section.

If you are eliminating the cats, they serve no purpose. Get HP Tuners and eliminate the codes. Then, you will have the software to tune it with your local dyno tuner....

What is that? Can I get that stuff deleted with a mailorder tune?

HP Tuners is $500 and you can use it forever. Mail order tune for one time is how much?

Also, the tuner lets you plug in and drive while recording data.....

That looks awesome. You can tune it the way u want it and u don't have to wait for it in the mail and pay more money for an updated tune if u change or add more mods. That is the coolest $hit, I'm deff. gonna have to look into getting it.

Would taking out the airpump and pulley while going with a shorter belt aswell as removing the cats get you a significant gain?

air pump on the LS1 (and i think LT1) is not pulley driven...it's electrical and is up under the front driverside fender.

no gains other than visual (less clutter) and weight savings

The air pump is for the cat converters. It adds air to helps convert 'gasses' on decel. I believe the cats can get pretty darn hot on decel if it is not used. if there is a lack of air in the exhaust it adds it to aid in better conversion for minimal emissions.

And yes, you don't need it w/ an OR setup.
