Air lid question

I have been thinking about getting an air lid for my Z. I have read other posts about several brands. My question is : If you had to choose now, which one would you get? I have seen some people with problems getting them to fit and seal correctly. Is there a consensus of which is the best?

you could probably do a search and find some of the past threads about this but IMHO I would get the direct-flo from www.ls1motorsports.com because its one of the cheapest you can find, its $95. and I have yet to hear of any complaints about it. all the aftermarket lids are about the same performance wise.

I've heard some people having problems getting the SLP lid to fit correctly. That is why I chose to go with the lid from Whisper Motorsports. Mine fits well.

I have the LS1 Motorsports "Direct-Flo" lid on my car, and IMO it fits well.............................however, it was a PITA to install the 1st time..............it took a few minutes "massaging" the lid to get the 4 tabs to fit into the factory slots, but eventually it did go, and now it comes off and goes back on with no problems, and the seal all the way around is perfect IMO. I can't speak for any of the other brands, but I've never really heard anything bad about any of them. HTH.

Thumbs up a LID is a must get mod........

I got a LS1 Motorsports lid also and it is a perfect fit. It did however take a little massaging to get it to fit the first time. The increase in airflow is gripping! The reason I chose the LS1 motorsports is that for a little more money ($ 20), you can have it delivered with the IAT (intake air temp. sensor) and rubber grommet already installed, which for my money is worth it. thats because you won't have to spend alot of time trying to get the things out of your stock setup.

I have the lid from SLP and had no problems w/install or seal. Everything works as advertised. I purchased an IAT sensor "just in case" but didn't need it. Also did the free ram air mod while I was in there. Quite a kick in performance...the engine pulls better from the mid to high end of the power band and launches into the next gear.

or you can try the K&N FIPK, i got it simply because it looks different cuz everyone else has lids, dont kno if u gain more or less compared to the lids but its easy to install. but it does cost alot more tho

SLP lid here.

its been on for about a week or 2 now, i didnt have my SS all last week so its really only been on a week...anyway i was lookin at it yesterday. i dont think its completely sealed in the back.
kinda pisses me off that i couldnt tell for sure.
when i unlatched the 2 front clips and slightly lift the lid, i could see 2 small gaps in the back. now this is whut pisses me off, im not really sure if it seals tight when the lid is latched. i was thinkin of puttin some vaseline or some stuff on the back then see if it gets some on the lid, where the gaps r of course.

im thinkin of puttin strip of weather stripping along the back to seal tight.

I've got a FIPK from Poor Boys on the way. It works like the K&N, it's just something different. I should be receiving it today. I figure I can do the free air mod while increasing the size of the vents on my SS hood. I'm also going to put together an aluminum radiator cover that includes a couple of vents to pull air towards the filter. The tube and smooth bellows should look cool with some polished aluminum.

Here's the ebay pic:
