air induction

I wish I knew about these cars stock...as I bought mine thinking it was stock but it wasn't. I have a question about the induction system on the SS. My car has an aftermarket CAI/ram air kit under the air filter. (really good for suckin up water) There is also a rubber piece at the base of where the filter sits. My question is.... does that rubber piece not completely make the SS hood non-functional? did it come with the aftermarket ram air? What I'm getting at is will it hurt to take it off ? Also, have any of you found whats best to CLOSE THAT HOLE when it rains??? Thx guys....lotsa great advice from this site

Re: air induction

sounds like you have something like the SSRA or slp cai. they are more effective than the SS hood.

so i would leave the block off and just stick with the aftermarket cai...

i have the SSRA which has a scoop under the front bumper, and i live in florida...no problems with rain

Re: air induction

you can take out that rubber stopper and you'll have both induction systems working at the same time(hood/normal box intake and the other one), does the scoop hang down lower than your bumper or bolt onto your bumper? is it metal or plastic? i havent had any problem with my ssra in the rain, its the one that bolts ontot he bottom of the bumper and goes up to your air lid, i do not have the front of the air lid blocked right now.

Re: air induction

No it sits in there pretty snug. I ended up fabricating a very thin piece of sheet metal to slide in the gap ( I removed the rubber piece ) when it rains. Works pretty well.

Re: air induction

oh thats the fast toys ram air not ssra, it shouldnt be much of a problem when it rains, just dont go through REAL deep puddles and you'd be fine...i have ssra which scoops even lower....FTRA shows great gains.
