I know exactly what you are talking about. There are 2 plastic shrouds that connect together in front of the radiator. You can pull one out the top, and the other out the bottom after disconnecting it from the bottom. I have removed both from my car. These have to be removed to install the Supersucker ram air kit. I have had the Supersucker on for 2 years with no overheating problems, and I lived in Memphis for a year where it is 90+ and sunny all summer long. Go ahead and remove them.

Thumbs up THANK YOU but.........

Your pretty sure I won't have any heat problems?

With both of these wind deflector panels OUT OF THE CAR, will the wind then still be forced into the steel SLP duct? I can assume yes, but now there are gaps around the condesor coil and this should be okay I take it. I can see how the wind and DIRT would get sucked into the engine bay too (because of the removal of those plastic deflectors) and this is not a problem at all?

I'm no mechanic and I'm sorry fellas.......

Thanks to everyone who helped. I don't know how I can repay you guys!

Every SS owner on Chirpandthird told me to replace the air panel and put it back it!

Anyone who has done a Ram Air or Cold Air knows what we are talking about here. The Ram Air installation that I did on my wife's car did not involve the "lower air deflector" at all. That's how Fasttoys refers to it in their literature. I think we have a consensus about which piece that is. That other flimsy plastic POS that Ray66 is refering to, (it was a bitch to remove, right?) is the "radiator shroud" (I think). IMO, removing this piece would have little or no adverse affect on the cooling system.

Fasttoys quote:
"GM designed the "lower air deflector" on these cars to channel air through the radiator.

Take them both out. i guarantee there will be no problem. If you wanrt a little extra piece of mind, do the fan mod. It costs about $15 for wiring and a toggle switch. Go to LS1.com. Look under the " mods" section on the home page. It lists step by step instructions. With this mod you can keep your slow speed fan on all the time. This is also great if you plan on drag racing. When you're sitting in the staging lanes after a run you can turn this fan on to aid cooling. I did it and it works great.
