AFR LS1 Heads

Finally some info on these things.

http://www.airflowresearch.com/pages/205cc_mongoose.htm

They have those and a 225cc version, but no flow numbers on that yet.

I'm definately picking up a set of as cast 200cc ones to be hand ported since we are a AFR dealer.

Just some info for the LS1 guys out there.

looks good to me. do you know the pricing yet?

do you know if the 225cc version will be avaliable with smaller combustion chambers?

You can always mill the heads to get them smaller.

I'm going to call my AFR rep tommorrow on the head pricing.

yea, i know i can mill them, id just rather have smaller chambers without milling. that way I wouldnt have to deal with any of the concerns that come with it.

thanks for the info, keep us posted...

With the thickness of the AFR decks you can mill them down without any problems. The only one being that the valves get a little closer to the pistons when you use really big cams.

The chambers are going to be a better burning double quench chamber like a Ford Yates head that's used in NASCAR. So even though they are a tad bigger in size than stock, they are a better design. A .025 milling will get them down to the LS6 chamber size. The 2.02 valves also help with the piston to valve clearance too.

They don't have any set pricing on the heads, but they should be close to the price of the LT1/4 stuff from them. So around $1800 for a set.

I usually order them without springs and retainers so I can install the parts that go with the cam on there instead so that should knock $100-$150 off the price there.

They are starting to take deposits on heads in November. So if anyone is interested drop me an e-mail. The deposit is $515 and they say they are confident that they will have heads out the door the begining of January.

The 225cc heads should be ready by then too, I'm not sure what the flow numbers will be yet but they should have those heads up and rolling the same time. The heads are the starting out as the same castings with just bigger higher flowing ports cut into them.

actualy this is the main concern i have. I know the decks are like thick as heck. if i do go with these ill just get them milled, im not that concerned. just wish i didnt have to mill ya know...
