Advice on Rev limit??

Advice on Rev limit??
I had my '99 tuned this past summer after my heads/cam install and my rev limit was set to 6200. This is right AT my peak power according to the tuner and dyno. He said that you shouldn't rev a street-driven car past 6200. The good news is that it made great power...the bad news is it made it all up top (he said the power was still climbing). The cam is a 229/229 578. My question is: if my valvetrain is up for more RPM, wouldn't it be OK to bump the limit up to 6500 or so so I could shift @ 6300-6400?

the guy who tuned your car at 6200 is a freakin' moron. i looked at your sig and the first thing that came to mind after reading what you had in your car and then noticing your 1/4 time was, "wtf?" .... go get that changed man, take it to another dyno shop and see what they say. hope to see you soon in 11's w/ your car PROPERLY tuned... wtf, lol

Unless your car has a steel crank I wouldn't be taking it near 7K. You can break a cast crank if you do it too much. I'd talk to someone who knows LS1's real well and ask but it's been common to not take cast cranks much past 6k with regularity. I may be wrong on this particular engine.

You got your H/C from Mike Morgan. You might want to give him a call and find out where he expected your power to peak with that package ... I supsect that it will be up around 6600 plus.
Like others have said ... you should be running in the 11s and trapping a lot closer to 120 than a 110.
Good Luck

You should be running 115-118mph on average
I would set the rev limiter to 6600-6800 and shift between 6400-6500. Im shifting my 226/234 cam at 6400 and i peaked at 6100
Our cars have steel cranks by the way. just not forged.
