AC Delco oill filter

I have a 99 camaro ss,and I have been using the AC PF46. I was wondering if anyone knows the AC# to the longer oil filter. Question 2. Would this be a good idea and what are the benefits.Question 3. I also use Castrol 5w-30 full syn., is there a better oil to use, because I heard that it is better to use regular oil.

-Just use the regular oil filter size.
-The benefits of synthetic oil vs. conventional oil is debatable.
-As long as you change your oil regularly when you should, it shouldn't matter what type or name brand you use...oil is oil.

not exactly.. GM Recommends synthetic in these cars for a reason.. granted regular oil is better than NO oil.. but there was a thread on here somewhere of someone disassembling their engine and finding score marks on the CYL walls.. another poster had similar mileage on his engine and ran STRICTLY Mobil1 from day one and he had almost no scouring on his cylinders. Synthetic oil will not turn into "water" (basically) under hard stressful conditions such as extreme heat/pressures of a race situation.

And yes, use the reg size oil filter.. I'd actually recommend the Mobil1 Filter. If you are so inclined.. It filters out a LOT of crap compared to the conventional filter.. I used the AC filters for years and recently switched to the M1 filter due to tests I found.

And I've also switched to M1 Oil due to postings I found on here that GM claimed that Castrol was not up to "GM Specs". I used to use Syntec religiously, but switched to M1.

dont use the AC Delco oil filters they are **** and made by FRAM. Buy the K/N filters, they hold more oil and plus have a extention for easy install and rmoval using a socket. As far as Oil, my dad and i have used Mobile 1 full synthetic either 5w 30 depending were your at if hotter use 10w 30. I have a 1999 SS as well and thats what i run

The long AC Delco oil filter is pf-59. The long K&N is HP2006. If you have a lowered car you might want to think twice though, (maybe someone with a lowered car could step in here to advise any issues they have had). They don't hang down too far, only about an inch or two below the oil pan. The K&N filters are built like a tank, so you would have to nail something pretty hard to puncture it (it could happen though). However, I've been running long filters on my Firebird since I've owned it with no issues.

gm doesn't recommend mobile 1 for nothing. gm knows your goin race so it needs the best lubercation as possible. the lsx engines love mobile 1 and its arguably the best syn oil.

K&N filters aren't worth the money.. IMO..

Also AC Filters carry the PF label = Purolator Filter. Not Fram, from what I was taught.

Didnt know we were hee to argue just to give advice, so learn to respect. Heres a article talking about oil filters. http://www.corolland.com/oil-filters.html
Note how the writer decided not to cut open the Mobile 1 filter identically built by Champion, the K/N was built the same. The AC Delco is that great according to this author who disected 8 differnt filters and compared them.

Nothing like a good oil filter debate This Mopar guy did a fair ammount of research:
http://www.knizefamily.net/minimopar...ers/index.html

You can have your K&N's Frams, etc ~ I'll stick with AC oil & air filters ~ think about this: GM has to warrenty the engine ~ I think they are smart enough to use the proper filters to minimize the number of engines they will have to replace.

No were not here to argue but don't think for one minute that just because you post something that everyone is going to agree with you and follow like a bunch of lemmings.
There are many oil filter studies on the web and often they show conflicting info. Who's right? Who knows. All info is good if you use your own brain to sort, collate, and make you own decisions.
And here's a tidbit for you. Just because a filter looks to be of the same manufacture on the outside doesn't mean it's identical inside.

No im saying this from experience, there are literally 20 pages of articles about the AC Delco filters. In the last 4-5 years they started going cheap on the way the make them, just pick up a old filter from about 10years ago and compare with the new even cut it open. They removed the inner casing, the welds on the outside are visible, and they shorten the case so not as much is filtered. My Dad used AC Delco for the longest time, but then somebody in his 454 SS Truck club that works for Gm told them not to use the filter cause they decided to go cheap. This all being said you get what you pay for, so if you want to ram a screw driver through your Fram or Delco filter to get it off cause the sealing base is uneven or deal with loss of oil pressure then go right ahead. And if you havent found out yet for crying out load GM signed a contract with Saleen to build a Saleen Camaro, come on joining with a genrally speaking Ford company. And why not put the best available parts on your vehicle that are at your hand, why would you settle for less when you look at putting a intake or headers on. You spend the extra money to insure that you get the quality and performance you want.

i have never had a problem with ac filters and use them for almost everything. as far as oil goes i used to run mobil 1 only in my cars but have since switched to amsoil. i also use the amsoil filters. i recieved a gift of the horsepower gods of 7 horsepower when i switched in my 285000 mile truck. imo i love the amsoil, but nothing against mobil. at least run synthetic.better protection, more horsepower
since everyone loves to read. performanceoiltechnology.com

1) What does this have to do with a discussion of oil/oil filters?
2) Saleen was contracted to build the Bumblebee cars for the Transformers movie, nothing more.

Honestly, I've been using Mobil 1 oil and filters since I bought my SS. But on my old '94 Z28 I used conventional Valvoline and Delco filters. Car always ran just fine, well past 100k when I sold it. So I honestly don't believe you're going to be dead in the water if you don't use brand 'x' oil/filters....just about anything on the market is going to give you at least the minimum necessary protection for a street motor.
