Alright guys i am about to buy a 2001 z28 m6 t tops leather, black.. you know perfect... but before i buy it besides piston slap which i already listened for and didnt hear what should i look for... basicly whats easy signs of abuse on the car if any.. like tires being really wore (car only has 14k miles on it) if anyone could help me out before i go tomorrow id be thankful
Like has been previously stated look for any kind of mods that have already been done. This could be a sign that it was raced; you could look at this one of 2 ways: free mods that you don't have to do or a car that has had a hard life. Look at the tires and if the leading edge of the tread blocks are feathered it is a sign of a burnout. Also like was stated earlier look for the a pinion seal leak that is very common on these cars. Also some people have problems with trany mounts, and I think it is more prevalent on m6 cars. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Alot of mods canbe a sign of abuse but not always. With 14k miles I do not think too much damage can occur.

Like I said eariler i'm sorry for the BS that happend in YOUR post I was orginally just trying to help BMJ as far as the water damage issue i'm not to shure what to look for but I would try and smell the carpet and try and look in little nooks and crannys like under the seats for a dirty residue on the tracks and what not, also I think when severe water damage occurs they total the car so that should show up on the title or carfax, I really wouldn't worry about it unless you really don't trust this person or dealer. Is water damage common where you are?? 2000TA, it seems the most common problems would be pinion seal, piston slap, head light motors, window motors, some gear whine and possibly a few others but they are all hit or miss. Onefast98z28 piston slap can be found in any LS1 design motor 5.3,5.7 and 6.0(these are the engines i've heard it in peronally) and possibly 4.8 and 8.1, some have very light cases and won't use much oil and some have bad cases of it and use alot of oil and those are the ones to worry about because many of them have been found out ot spec. and need replaced(engines) and they are starting to see when they just replace the pistons that it is just hit or miss, sometimes it comes back after a few 100mi and some stay quiet??? And as far as abuse goes it seems these cars can take quite a bit of it so don't worry about it too much especially with only 14,00mi. Good luck and let us know what happend
