A4 shifter problem?
With car running/moving in "OD", I was able to move my shifter forward to neutral without pressing the button. I tested it again but from "D" and was again able to move forward to neutral without pressing button. Isn't the shifter suppose to lock into position
I had never noticed this before and I'm only concerned cause I had a shift linkage problem fixed by the dealer awhile back and I want to make sure this is normal and not something that was damaged.
I guess i'm alittle more aware of potential problems nowadays due to warranty almost up (33000mi)
Please help put my mind at ease. Thanks!

My Car does that but when I would be concerned is if you can put the tranny in Reverse or Park w/ out the button... Which you probably cannot but going into Neutral is not going to hurt anything maybe over rev engine but you are not going to blow the tranny for it... You just need to use the button to get out of Park into Reverse, then you use the button to go from O/D to D, then you can shift the tranny from drive to 2 or 1 w/ out using the button, back up into O/D and Neutral w/ out the button, but you have to use the Button to get into Reverse and back into Park....
It is normal... I just wish I could use a B&M Mega Shifter on my car... Ratchet is the only way to go for an Auto...
