i was just wondering with all of you guys who has an a4 with a lid and loudmouth make your rpm redline? those are the only mods i have. cuz yesterday i just smashed it on a straight away on overdrive and went all the way to atleast 6700 rpm? is that normal. the only thing i did else was white face gauges and i know i didnt screw up on the needles cuz the rpm needle sits on that lil black needle as well. ..i was just curious
It sounds to me like someone has reprogrammed the PCM. The stock rev Limiter is set at 6200 rpm’s and the stock shift points usually shift at between 5800 and 6000 rpm’s depending on the what gear your in. If you have a programmer I would recommend setting your rev limiter to 6300 and shift around 6000 to 6100 rpm’s. If you have stock pushrods and stock springs never let it go past 6500 rpm’s or your asking for trouble.
If the PCM has never been changed then that’s a different story. Then you are having problems with your 4l60e transmission. When your tranny starts going bad some times it will not shift at WOT (wide-open throttle). Especially going from 2nd to 3rd gear.

Well I have these mods and i've only hit the rev limiter once in the rain and the only reason that happend is because I was messing around
But there is no way a pretty much stock car should ever see 6700rpm's
Like said b4 either you're tranny is going on you, or it has been programed

95 teal is right but is did you buy the car
new or used. Used someone could have
done a chip or LS1edit however I'd think they
would have done a lid first which you said you
bought unless they took it and sold it with
stock parts on it. You could find someone
with a ls1edit and reset the PCM if you think
this have have happened.
Other than that, does your tranny slip.
If it is slipping into neutral, the rev limiter
won't help you, that's manually overreving it
eventhough you aren't intending to do it.
What we're trying to say is those mods really
have nothing to do with it, its either a moded
PCM or tranny problems
new or used. Used someone could have
done a chip or LS1edit however I'd think they
would have done a lid first which you said you
bought unless they took it and sold it with
stock parts on it. You could find someone
with a ls1edit and reset the PCM if you think

I had the same problem as you, with the same mods as you, except for the LoudMouth, I have a cutout instead.
Under WOT my car would not shift, and from a roll, when I floor it, it will skip 2nd gear, so it looks like this: 3 - 1. Well turned out that I burned out 2nd gear, and I took it to the dealership, and I got it fixed.
Have a transmission shop check out your tranny first

thanks for the replies. yeah i bought it used. my tranny feels fine to me. i always drive it in overdrive. and sometimes i just gun it, and it will shift fine. but sometimes it gets all the way up there. im assuming i might have messed up on the white face gauge install but i dont really think so..thanks.

The 4L60E is a picky tranny. I've had that problem even when I was stock. Sometimes (not always ), on the 4-2 down shift (50-70 WOT punch) the TC unlocks but doens't seem to lock up again. The engine will hit the rev-limiter and I have to let off the throttle and hit it again for it to shift. I avoid the problem by easing in the throttle at those speeds. This downshift problem has never occurred to me at 75mph and above (my car's sweetspot). i asked the dealership about it once and they said they had to tear it down to figure out what was wrong. I don't think its worth it.
i agree with you danno. but then again guys i dont even shift at all. im always cruising in OD. then i just smash on it some times. but like what you say danno when it gets up there i do ease up on the gas for it to shift. but when im already cruising like around 70-80 and smash it then my rev limiter goes all the way up. but brian from texas speed and performance said not to worry bout it. he said something bout the tach. but nothing to worry bout.
