99 T/A trouble

well, i just started to notice a problem with my car and i cant figure it out. when i am accelerating, on the driver side of the engine, there is a decently loud ticking that i have noticed. i was thinking it could be a damaged hose somewhere or EGR related. the car also seems to be down on power..... any ideas on what this could be? it seems like if it isint one thing, than its the other for me

Re: 99 T/A trouble

check and make sure all the manifold bolts are tight as well as all the bolts for the egr setup.

Re: 99 T/A trouble

just to make sure, my EGR setup is on the passenger side of the engine correct? and what manifold bolts are you talking about?
Thanks

Re: 99 T/A trouble

he means the bolts holding the manifolds to the head....there could be a leak.

is it a "pfft" sound or a tick?

"pfft" would be an exhaust leak

does it coincide with increase in rpm? could be lifter tap, a bad lifter or a broke spring, bent pushrod
has it been over reved recently?

yes, it is a tick, and yes it has been over revved recently due to my tranny being fouled up, i have since had the tranny replaced, but could it really be a bent pushrod? it just started doing this recently and it is a clicking/ticking sound on the driver side of the engine, and it seems to be somewhat down on power and as the acceleration is increased, the ticking is worse......
thanks
Nick

Re: 99 T/A trouble

i'd put money on a bent pushrod, they are well known to give out after over reving.

could also be a bad lifter or bent valve i suppose

pull the valve covers, pull the pushrods and roll them on something flat, see if you can find the bent one...

it may be obvious to the nakid eye...maybe not

Re: 99 T/A trouble

is it really that simple to check the pushrods?... just take the valve covers off, and slide em out???

Re: 99 T/A trouble

unbolt the rocker arms too...

but yeah..it's pretty simple.

i mean even reinstalling the rockers is cake...just put them on, and torque the bolts to 21# ...or maybe it was 23# not sure off hand

no setting valve lash or anything.
