99 SS Power Steering Pulley
99 SS Power Steering Pulley
Ok, let me say that I am not by any means mechanically smart. But I do know a couple things.
Anyways, I just bought this car a week ago. Its a 1999 Camaro SS M6 w/ 91,000 miles.
I searched and never found a post with a good clear answer.
The power steering pully is squeeking/whining/ticking very loud. At least I think it is the PS Pulley. I sprayed some WD-40 on the center cap and it went completely quiet. The fluid level is fine and the power steering works great. I don't think it's the belt, it looks new and I even tried spraying some belt dressing on it.
Is this something that usually happens with these cars? Does this pulley have a bearing that I can pull and grease like the sticky thread?
Should I just replace the pulley and shut up? How easy is it to pull the PS Pulley off? Do I need a special tool?
Thanks for the help!

The pulley on the pump itself is mounted on the pump shaft and there would be no gain in changing it out or spraying WD-40 on it's nose as the bearings are in the pump. Chances are that the overspray got on the belt and that's why the noise went away.
Pull the belt and spin every pulley by hand to see if any of them squeak, grind, or feel gritty. You might find the culprit that way. And go buy a new Goodyear Gatorback belt to put back on.
