99 or 00? Two beasts....

Im looking at two beasts here, and am looking for some opinions from the folks here..
Here are the two...
One is an 00 z28 with 17k miles on it.
The other is a 99 z28 with 40k miles on it.

They both are M6 cars, the differences are that the 99 has t-tops and traction control, the 00 has every power option known to man inside...are there any opinions from the peanut gallery?

depends on the price they are both asking...but if your gonna mod a car get the 99 over the 00 since youd probably save a few grand that you could invest in a cam & heads and be well on your way to needing a 12 bolt...oops i mean into the 11's

I'd consider the 00 first with only 17k miles. On my 98Z I had to replace rotors, a master cylinder and a new clutch at around 50k to 60k miles. Seemed like all this expense came up at the same time.

Can't believe I'm pushing 80k miles on the 98Z and it still runs great.

OK....I appreciate everyone's input!
Few things..the 00z is in new hampshire, so it has lived in a new england life, and while there is no rust, it must have been tough..
The 99 z does have the traction control, monsoon system, brand new rubber, and is a lot cheaper....Im going down to see it and have a look...its a NJ car, so its had a bit better life road-salt wise....

no necessarily...keep in mind that MA car only has like 17K on it...thats about what 5k a year...may have been garaged in winter...also NJ aint much better i mean yah they get snow snow and more snow but salt is salt and unless it was at least washed off afterwards it still takes its toll. Also Clutch life isnt that long in these cars anywayz and most peeps go to a better one soon after they buy anywayz so personally i dont consider that an issue...same with rotors...i had to replace mine when i got my car...and only 94 i only had 25k miles on the car before they were warped.

The big thing I would think about on deciding this is how much money is it saving you. Personally I like the idea of the car with the lower mileage. Generally people do not get a Camaro to baby it, they get it to drive it. I would rather be the one who owns it earlier in its mileage life and know what it has been through. How much the mileage difference is worth depends on the $$ difference. I just got my Z28 a few months ago and so points I cared about were low miles as much as possible, manual and I really wanted the T-Tops. Good luck, let us know what you decide. It will be fun either way.

Been racking my brains about this one, and it really is important for me to get t-tops...Its about 17K for the one with the lower miles, the Z with 40k miles is only 14K, but I really really like the t-tops....and the traction control is a biggie too...
Going to take a drive tomorrow to see what I can see with it!

T tops are nice, I wanted them to but trust me after
awhile you won't be using them as much as you think
especially if your going somewhere and parking.
Now out cruising is another story

Stupid assumption on my part but if you plan on driving year round in NE then the traction control seems really important, especially after the winter we had last year. I don't plan on letting my Camaro see the snow so I was not too concerned about it not having the traction control.

The T-Tops are a fun option. As much as I hate to say it they are a little inpractical compared to say like a moonroof (I know not an option on an F-Body) but the T-Tops works great for these cars. It takes a few minutes to take the tops off but it is really wonderful crusing around with them off. Seems a little like a convertible with the rigidity of a hard top.

I think you are going to have a good time either way. If you plan on keeping it for the long haul make sure you don't compromise. Good luck.

Damn right when its free

Hey dont knock it unless you have tried it, that lil gimic HONESTLY took .1 off my 1/4...idc if you belive me or not, im the one that drove the car....And your right, u bought ur car with the same miles and its NOT an SS...But o yea, thanks for the input, why did i ask him to email me, bc i have a life and have things to do that are more importatnt than being on here all the time (not dissing it) bc i do enjoy the question and answer sessions...but yes to be truly honest, it shaved .1 off my time....could have been a fluke but ya know, i only have taken my car up there up there and dragged it 4 times (passes) total....Well thanks guys for the "kind" remarks...but be open minded, especially since it was given to me by a local performance shop to see if they acutally work....I have no complaints and the claims arent totally true as to how much they say, but i do get better mpg, and i do get the .1 off my 1/4, so just relax guys, personally it was just a suggestion to the kid since hes looking for a car, besides i want rid of my m6 so i can get an a4 for the track....well have a good night guys...

Justin
* and yes i will back the Tornado* we run it in our 493hp SBC Dirt Sportsman....http://www.canandaiguaspeedway.com/photopage.htm ...then scroll down n the left margin to sportsman, under Todd Henderson...Thas what i will back the Tornado up to with 4 wins this season, including 3 within the first 4 races running of the Torndao....Be open minded, i thought taht all car guys were into being open to new ideas...well im back to my C++ programming....bie
