Is this 98 a good deal?

Alright heres the scoop. I have a coworker who was telling me to look at this Z28 at this local used car lot. He knows the guy who owns it, and he tries to get me to buy some other cars there. So I drive by today, and I see this red 98 Z28. It looks pretty good on the outside, but I didn't stop to look at it. I was figuring that it was a crap load of money so I kept on driving. I get home and start reading a local autotrader type magazine and find that the same car is for sale for 6,995. The AD said it was fully loaded, and had T-tops. It didn't say anything else. I am going to look at it after work tomorrow, but I wanted to get your opinions on it now. This is the second 98 LS1 I've seen for less than 7 grand in two weeks. I'm not a big fan of red, but if this car is pretty nice, and is in decent shape, I am willing to let the color slide for that price. What do you all think? The picture is unavavilbe at the website, so I don't have a picture for you.

That's the cheapest I have ever seen a LS1. I wonder how many miles it has.

Ya, thats one of the cheapest ones I"ve seen too. I saw one for 6,500 in last weeks magazine. I called on that one and it was gone after a couple days. I'm curious abou the mileage too, but it really doesn't bother me because I can fix anything that'll break on it. What I care about is that the interior is in decent shape. I was planning on just buying an early LT1 Z28, but my coworker told me about this, and I can't turn it down if it is that good of a car.

I would've bought it right then and there! I can't believe you still hesistate, for a price like that I would buy it even though I already have one! It sounds pretty loaded, I would buy it and use it as a second car so I can work on my current one while I drive the other one.

I actually like the red color the most. I like four colors, Pewter, Dark blue, black, and red. The red I can add the SS hood and the 35th anniversary stripes and would look just like the real thing.

I had a hard time finding my car when I bought mine, and I was actually looking for a red one.

PS, you won't even find a v6 for that price, If you don't buy it, tell me where they have it, heck I'll buy it right now!!

It is certainly on the lower end of the price range, but that doesn't mean anaything is wrong with it.

I personally plan to find a 98-00 car next summer with a butt load of miles on it for about 6k. Re-ring and bearing the stock shortblock, drop on some ported heads with a bumpstick and you are ready.

400 at the tire for less than 8k

Thanks for your opinions guys! I am going right over to the place after work to look at it. If the interior isn't trashed I think I will get it. I doubt the interior is trashed thought, I used to visit the lot a lot this last summer looking at Z28's and Trans Ams. More times than not, they would have a car that had a bad paint job vs. one with a torn up interior. LIke someone else said, for the price, I can fix anything that is wrong with it. Wish me luck! I'll post how the car is and if I'm buying it or not when I get back!

i just picked up a 98 z28 with leather and all power, no t-tops last week for $7000, with 77,000 miles, needed some cleaning and a drivers power window motor,

he was asking $8000 but he went down to $7000 when i showed him cash$$

my feeling is any ls1 car in good shape and under$8500 is a good deal

Alright , I looked at it this afternoon. The car has 132,000 miles on it, and still looked pretty decent. It was an automatic, and it had a lot of options. The dealer said that someone had put a down payment on it already and that we would know by monday if it wasn't sold. So hopefully, the guy will fall through with the money and I'll be able to buy it.

Well, I called about it today, er well like 10 minutes ago. They said the guy hasn't bought it yet, and they are getting a lot of calls about it. I'm mad at myself for not putting my name on the list earlier. I called today and they said that they have 3 other people on a list wanting to buy it. So, ya I think they really want to cancel the deal with the guy, because he is taking too long. They said they'd call me back as soon as they knew whether or not the guy was going to buy it. I know that I was one of the first people to look at it, but now I highly doubt, even if the guy falls through, that I'll get it. OH well its a tough lesson I had to learn. All I can do is hope the guy falls out along with the rest of them.

keep in mind deals that seem too good to be true usually are. If you can weld you can buy two wrecked cars one with a good front and one with a good rear and make a car that looks good pretty cheap. I would not want to drive a car like that though. I would at least ask about any disclosures on the title.
