98-99 slower? vs 00-02

i've got a question for all you ls1 guys. I'm planing on selling my lt1 vert for an ls1 in a few months and i've been wondering about the trash talk i've heard about the earlyer model LS1's compared to the later ones, i've heard there quite a bit slower. Anyone got any idea's or comments?

I think the better intake manifold on 01-02 would give them a slight edge.

Ahhh but 98-99's have bigger cams stock, so put the LS6 manifold on a 98-99 and you're good to go. Much cheaper too!

We are talking about 10hp difference at tops and I mean very tops. 10hp is the factory rated difference between a 98 Z and 02 Z.

And for the millionth time, the factory horsepower ratings don't mean a thing. They're BS.

The 01-02 cars are generally a smidge faster. But does that mean a 98-00 car can't beat one? No. The differences are almost negligble.

That's my point, the factory says it is a 10hp difference and we know it is a little fabricated.

As said before, its all up to the driver. But, if you want to get technical... the 98-99 pretty much the same car, they do have a larger cam than the 01-02 except that the 98 at larger injectors, but in 00 they switched to yet a "little" bigger cam, and new high flow exhaust manifolds (about the same power as shorty headers). In 01-02 have the LS6 intake, and they kept the exhaust manifold but went to a smaller 6.0 cam from the trucks to gain a tad down low.

I ran my 99 M6 Z28 vs my friend 01 M6 Z28, and thumpted him pretty decently.

He was 100% stock... I had a Borla cat-back, and a lid...

To be fair, he wasn't the greatest M6 driver in the world, but then again, neither am I....

actually the factory says its 5 hp difference..

I have seen some 98-00 dyno at or below 300 rwhp.. and 01-02 cars dyno at 305-320... so ya just never know..

as for the "smaller truck cam" sorry... the larger cam, as I recall, doesnt do much off the line. my car does pretty nicely and feels good. I would rather have more power down low for launching than not..

Posted in the Kill Forum... I had raced a '98-99 Z28 from a 55mph roll, that had the exact same mods as me, and I pulled one car on him by the end of 4th gear. The '01-02s have a tendency to dyno higher, but it's not such a big deal to not consider getting an earlier LS1. Once mods start it doesn't really matter anyways.
