Question 98' to 00' What Are Most Common Problems?

I'm going to be looking for a M6 LS1.
My brother had a 99' M6 with few mods for five years and no problems.
I just want to know if that was a fluke or if their that good.

His stock clutch lasted till he sold it and he would race it.

My LT1 with high performance clutch lasted only two years.

Thanks,
Jim

they suck, i have 50,000 KM on my car (about 30000m, i think) and i have never been hard on it and it is on its way out. that and i find a lot different than my buddies old 95 Z, the old ones i think were much better.

Uh, not mine and i drive mine hard. I just take care of it i guess..

I did break my rear end like 3 days ago, but thats becaus im pushing well over 400rwhp and used slicks a few times at the track, and street. Then i ride around around on drag radials on a regular basis. So, ya know... The GM 10 bolt is pathetic.. I just ordered a Moser 12 bolt so its all good. I dont see how some of these guys with basicially stock cars are get piston slap or oil consuption, they must drive them like idiots.

it isn't the driving that does it. my car has consumed oil since i bought it and piston slap comes from the factory. both of them are not really related to driving. well not when they are brand new and doing it it isn't driving.

I have 2000 SS, no problems yet. Still have stock clutch and rearend. I have 4.10 gears and I'm some what surprised that rearend is still holding up.

Nope our 98 is as quiet as a mouse.
Now the 00 has the piston slap until warm.

my adventures:

power window motors
coolant level sensor
ABS module
leaking t-tops

IMO not bad for 65k miles. it was all covered under warranty. i've used about 1 qt oil per 3000 miles since new.

well you might have to replace the rear tires a few times, for some reason they wear faster than the fronts...

98s are notorious for having 3.9 Degrees of knock retard depending on when in the year they were built. It is directly related to the knock sensors put in them, otherwise the 98 is just like the others before 2001 ... missing an LS6 intake and bogged with all the emissions EGR crap. Otherwise, they are great!!

that would be from giving it too much gas
