9.6 sec stock engine ?

Ok..Im lost
When putting big cam ..gotta make sure that its getting enough air ..or it will run like crap. So full intake, full exhaust , and heads! are needed to make huge cam run good. Well...how is this possible ..that guy ran 9.6 sec 1/4 mile with full bolt on car..stall..slicks...stock rear end...stock unported heads...stock 347 block.. camshaft only. ?!
I dont get it..

Anyone ?

Re: 9.6 sec stock engine ?

not enough information here to answer your question. what cam? what stall? weight of the car? gears out back? there is more to racing than just power made by the engine.
but say a car with a T-Rex cam, 4000 stall, 4.10's or similar, major weight reduction, good suspension and a damn good driver, who knows...

I seriously daubt it with the stock rear unless this is a sub 1500lb car with a big stall auto. not to mention that even with a trex it still isn't at 450 rwhp

Re: 9.6 sec stock engine ?

Well what Im not getting here is ... how does such a huge cam like this - its bigger than t-rex v2, can run on stock heads and block. So Lets see ...
Can I run T-Rex v.2 with stock ported heads,4200 stall,4.10 egear and full bolt ons, dyno tunning with no problems ? How driveable is it gonna be ?
Thanks a lot

P.S About that 9.6 car... my bad it had 150 shot of nitrous and it was gutted to hell..totally nothing inside. But still huge cam ..stock heads.. weird.

Look here: http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...&vid=3&pcid=51 .. You should see the trex cam somewhere.

With the dyno graph it made 451rwhp and its a 242/248 duration

Re: 9.6 sec stock engine ?

The trex will work with ported head but if the heads are milled it will not. It can work on a daily but expect to use a decent amount of gas and it is less powerful then other cams in the mid range and low range.

Re: 9.6 sec stock engine ?

Hey My84Z...what would u recommend ... for a camshaft... that adds some really good power... needs stall not higer than 3800.... and i could drive daily...with stock ported heads..totally rebuilt ( new springs, retainers, lifters, pusrods etc.) I got two on my mind here :
Dur 231 237 Lift .589 .595 112
Dur 232 240 Lift .595 .610 112

If it needs new rockers..thats fine ill buy them.

My car is auto with full bolt ons, LT, LS6 etc. With 4.10 gear.
See.. for cam like t-rex they recommend 4000+ stall. and thats too high for street driving.
I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO !!! HELP MAN HELP !

Thanks a lot !

Re: 9.6 sec stock engine ?

Personally for a daily I would say a 228 style cam possibly a 231 237. Ls1tech.com has alot more infor on such things.
